How does it all start?

On June 30 I had a CT scan to check the current condition of my carcinoid disease. While the carcinoid is still under control the report did mention something that has me concerned. To quote the report, "I have seven enhancing peritoneal and abdominal wall nodules". The largest of these measures 19 x 16 mm and it was 12 x 8 mm six months ago. My chief complaint right now is abdominal pain which even with narcotics I'm had control. For the past 10 years I've had chronic abdominal pain because of my carcinoid disease but in the last seven or eight months it's been getting steadily worse. And more recently I've been having a lot of problems with nausea, no vomiting but just severe nausea.

I was wondering if this is how Peritoneal Cancer started for anybody in the group.

    Do you have ascites?

Vague abdominal pains were what sent me to the doctor repeatedly 2 yrs ago. But another big factor was abdominal swelling--so much that I had to buy new underwear & my husband & I joked that if I had a uterus, you'd think I was 6 mos pregnant. What I didn't know is that the abdominal swelling was caused by ascites, or an accumulation of fluid in the abdomen, pressing on stomach & intestines so that I could only eat a bite or 2 of food at meals. I've never heard from anyone who has primary peritoneal cancer without ascites. However, I understand cancers can metastasize to the peritoneum from other places of origin. Sorry, I have no more info for you. Good luck.

    Do you have ascities?

I have occasional abdominal bloating but no sustained enlargement of my abdomen which I guess will be the case if I had ascities. I am losing weight but was able to eat an entire bimed potato the other day. So I guess I probably don't have primary peritoneal cancer, maybe it's just my carcinoid metastasizing to other places.

Thank you for your response, I really do appreciate it. Hope things go well for you in the future. Casey
