How odd it is to have to tell people that I have a medical issue. I've never done that before. 

Of course, I was up-front about being a Stage IV cancer patient, and I kind of expected to be turned down on the spot, but the lady didn't seem to mind, and even told me that she was a 23 year cancer survivor. 23 years, thats going to be me one day. 

Anyway, the interview was at the local funeral home. 

Before cancer (BC) I worked as a Podiatric medical assistant, and my old boss quit coming to our small rural town. He is thinking of returning, but is not sure. I would love to work with him again, but I am desperate for some money to pay off bills. 

Fingers crossed that this job will work out, and if it does, that I will work out for the job. I've never worked with the deceased before, and worry a bit about the severly injured. Other than that, I think I would be fine. 

Just thought I'd share.

    Jump Right In

    Sometimes you have to jump right in to a position you never thought that you would take but are now willing to because it might be the perfect job for you in the end.  It's good that the one you talked to has been through what you have - that to me is amazing and she will be able to relate.  Hoping that it all works out for you.  Actually my daughter wanted to work for a funeral home to do their hair.  Me, personally, couldn't do it, but if you can, you go for it girl and good luck.

    You are protected by Federal Law

    Just know that you don't have to tell anyone that you have cancer, under Federal Law.   EEOC protects cancer employees. I was fired from my Corporate job because of my cancer  and I worked with the HR Team. I ran a plant's HR Dept.  They said all these lies about my performance and they were lying, like it wouldn't come out.  Crazy people. I had the last word...

    Hi

    Just jump in and go for it.   I did.   I never thought I would be working again at my age but an opportunity came up and I went for it.  It is only three days a week, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday so it still gives me 4 days a week free.   It has worked out pretty well.  With George gone, it was just too lonely in the house.  I have  never lived by myself so it has been quite an adjustment.   Of course, the money has really come in handy getting finances settled down and has given me a cushion at the end of the month. 

    Fingers crossed that all works out for you.

    Getting out of the house is great for your mental health. I'm ready to go back to work as well, but still have a lot of issues.

    to say that the thought of one of us stage 4ers working in a funeral home somehow tickles my funnybone??

    Seems like flipping ol' Death the bird, so good for you!  Hope you get the job.

    (we have a Gilda's Club here, and it's in a former mortuary, which has the reputation of being haunted...it's a turn of the century buiding and very cool...I loved the idea of sharing my yoga class with ghosties)

    Legally you do not have to

    Legally you do not have to tell an employee you have a medical condition. If it's a small place then there is a moral issue but if you try for a big place outside of town. I wouldn't mention it at all.

    Everything is small in rural Nevada

    There are only two people at the funeral home dealing with a large, rural county.  I did feel that I had to be up front with them, but I do appreciate you letting me know that I'm not legally bound to tell them. 

    My application and resume are in, so now we just wait and see.

    How have you been feeling these days? 

    My brother still gets the runs even though he is on Lomotil. He doesn't watch what he eats, so he aggravates his condition. He gets a PET scan in a few weeks. He just had his 50th birthday, so me, my hubby and daughter took him and dad out for his birthday. For a while there, I wasn't sure he would make it to 50. I have been super busy getting them ready for their move. It is overwhelming me. It's so much work. I can't wait to get them in the new place and settled.

    I'm sorry I didn't have a chance to check in sooner to see how you're doing. Please fill me in on how you are feeling.

    How sweet of you to ask

    I have not heard anything about the job. It won't break my heart (just the bank) if I don't get it. I go out birdwatching almost every day, and confess, I'm loving the freedom. I wish money weren't an issue. 

    I was actually feeling absolutely fantastic until last night, when I got really dizzy and a little sick to my stomach. I slept well, but was still feeling dizzy and sick when I got up. It didn't stop me going up to the firing range to find a bird I had seen yesterday. Too many shooters up there yesterday, so I couldn't have a good look see. I went up this morning at 5:30, nice and quiet and found my bird. 

    Anyway, I still feel a little squirly. You've got to know that anything now can be turned into cancer, so I'm thinking brain met. I'm sure the problem is that last night I spent half and hour with my head tilted while watching fireworks, and I bet I kincked my neck or something. 

    I do get to see the Oncologist on Tuesday for my CEA results. This is the second test since the liver ablation, so I am hoping and praying that it is down into the normal range, as he wants to put me back on chemo if it isn't.  I am feeling far too healthy and happy to want to go back into treatment. 

    So, there you have it. I'm sure the dizzy thing is just a passing stage. I am so full of life that I don't want to stop now.

    I am glad that your brother has celebrated his 50th. May he see many more birthdays. 

    May the move go smoothly and be over soon, so that your life can get back to some form of normal. I know, it will not be normal for a while, but take good care of yourself.

    Feeling better

    I hope you're feeling better. I know what you mean every ache and pain makes you worried it could be somehow related. Positive prayers and thoughts for your test results. Tuesday I'm going in for round 4 of 12. I'll be looking forward to your post with your CEA in normal range!
