Does Cancer Feed Off Sugar

I have been told and have seen it on alot of websites that cancer cells feeds off sugar. I ask my ONC this and he said that this has actually really not been proven yet so I could occasionally have a desert. I also read that cancer cells also feeds off of all artifical sweetners. I hate drinking water and I know I have to go off my diet drinks. I hate lemon in my water. Also you have to watch your carbs because these turns into sugar also. Does anybody have any suggestions for helping me drink more water. When I did drink water I would use the different flavoring packets and liked them. They have artifical sweetners in them too. Any suggestions anyone? Thanks.  Donna

Does cancer feed off sugar - yes I think it does

I wrote this once then clicked in the wrong place lol and lost it!  I remember when I had a PET scan back in 2011 and the technician said that they put sugar into my body and the uptake of sugar by cancer cells was higher than regular cells.  I perked up and listened and looked it up.  Yes, I believe that sugar feeds cancer - so I try to eat nutritious food without sugar, try to limit carbs, etc.  Kind of like being diabetic.  I do like water, but also like tea and drink that.  I also do juicing - and use carrots with several other vegetables.  Best of luck to you -

    hmmmm

There are many women and men who have actually taken better care of themselves than most people actually do and they still get cancer.  None smokers still get cancer...

As I fought the fight for my own life Paul McCartney's wife Linda was going around again with her own fight and there was a woman who actually took incredible care of her health a vegetarian and too had more money to any kind of treatment there was.  Nothing saved her and nothing stopped her from getting cancer putting it all into perspective for me at that time.  No garauntees in life and not even after having treatments for cancer.  Far as I am concerned it is all a crap shoot.

MY own friends often said they couldn't believe it was me who got cancer since I was a bit of a health nut for years and athlete my entire life.  I have eaten more sugar in the past 20 years than ever did prior to cancer.  I decided long ago I was going to be happy and quit worrying about those kinds of things for IT IS WHAT IT IS...  One study says one thing another something completely different and after an entire life time of studying butter the most natural form wins over.

Does cancer feed off sugar? Yup, I think so.

Yes, I believe that cancer feeds off sugar.  I remember having a PET scan in 2011 and the technician told me about the cancer cells having more reaction from sugar than other cells, and I perked up and listened. I've since read that cancer cells consume more sugar than normal cells, so decided I don't want to feed those cancer cells. The onco I used to go to would put sugary donuts out for his patients in the waiting room.  Then all of a sudden, that stopped.  I thought well about time!  Well, anyway - I do like to drink water but sometimes drink tea also  - iced or hot tea.  Perhaps that's an option.  I try to get plenty of good nutrients out of the food I eat.  Best of luck to you -

    Does Cancer Feed off Sugar?

....... well I'm with Tara on this one.     I believe that we can do much better if we stop all the fine tuning.   After I realized that I COULD NOT exist living in FEAR (after the chemo and radiation)   it has been a lot easier for me to handle all the scans and blood tests etc.   As for sugar... all I know is that during chemo I could not STAND chocolate....which had been one of my very favorite things  :)   The weight went down and then came back.....I eat what I want and have sweets in moderation....but I don't agonize over whether the sugar in my food feeds the cancer cells.  I hold on to God in my darkest hours..... and I am thankful for each day and try to live in the NOW.   I drink bottled Spring Water.... ... no flavorings.  Water is very important  :)

    Don't know about this but

Don't know about this but understand that all the flavored drinks are bad for you and some artificial sweeteners. Also BBQ grilling, and dairy as we all know.  Not too much meat and not too much fish (especially ocean bottom feeders), alcohol.  Honestly everything in moderation, else we would go crazy.  I hate water and plastic bottles aren't good either, then there's stress. so try not to worry...........  Mmmmmmm.  I could go on but let's not.  Time for a cup of tea, caffeinated by the way and British, our U.S. hot tea is like dishwater to me.  But seriously of course we all worry, try to push it aside.  I don't mind bubbly water and water with a big squirt of lemon or lime juice.

    Sugar Feeds Off Cancer Cells

All you BC patients out there what do you drink if you do not like water. If you drink tea you have to put some kind of sugar in it anyway I would except. I have cut back on my sweets but I do not know of anyone that drinks diet soda like I do. Sometimes I will drink 5 or 6  cans a day and I love tea but I use sugar or articical sweeterner it it. We are to cut out sugar because cancer cells feeds off of of sugar and sometimes I think that may have caused my BC but no proof of it. Any suggestions what I could flavor my water with except lemon or lime which I do not like. Someone told me that the brand name artifical sweetner Stevia you can have. I just do not know what to do but giving up my diet drinks are so hard to do and I am trying very hard to this. Any suggestions I would appreciate very much. Thank you,   Donna

I prefer not to go by what I

I prefer not to go by what I "think." I like to go by what credible doctors, hospitals, clinics tell me. Here are some credible sites with information regarding sugar and cnacer. I'm not going to print out the whole articles.

    http://www.mdanderson.org/publications/focused-on-health/issues/2012-november/cancersugar.html

    https://www.whatnext.com/blog/posts/does-cancer-feed-off-sugar

    http://www.breastcancer.org/risk/factors/unhealthy_food

If you read those current views by very credible sources, the view is now that cancer does not feed off sugar, but it is other result s that a diet high in sugar that can make oneat risk for cancer.

Everything needs balance and moderation. Your  body needs a certain amount of glucose in the system to function properly, Low blood sugar comes with problems, too.

When I was in my teens and early 20s I didn't like water. I would add lemon to it and those sweetners, but I found after just drinking plain old water and ice water, i feel better and enjoy water.

Please, if you are going to say that you read websites that prove sugar causes cancer, please put the links in. I know I would appreciate it.

I don't think you will find

I don't think you will find answers about diet sodas in those websites, sorry.

I would ask your oncologist about that or refer you to credible websites for information.

I Did Not Make A Comment About Dairy

RozHopkins was the one who made the comment about dairy. Do not know anything about it. She also made a comment about grilling and I heard that it did cause cancer when you burned your meat on the grill and ate the burned portions. I heard this on the news on TV a couple years ago. Dairy I know nothing about. Sorry !!!!

    Sorry ladies.  I just meant

Sorry ladies.  I just meant dairy products have a lot of salt (and added dangerous hormones fed to animals to fatten and bulk them)  and fat and pile the weight on.  Weight is another possible 'cause'.  jumping ahead of myself, I tend to go from possible cancer causing things to what in my mind are bad eating choices/questionable cancer causing.  I went to a wonderful healthy restaurant recently who had water with a selection of flavors in it including fresh ginger, it was delicious.  I also don't like whatever they feed cattle, pigs and poultry these days there are a lot of hormones in there and some unnatural feed.  I don't eat veg with skins on because of sprays they use, unless I treat myself to organic.  See what I mean, I wander over subjects, it all becomes one to me.  I enjoyed tonic water instead of water but in tight moderation.  My husband mixes half 'light' not diet cranberry juice and half full pulp orange juice, looks a horrible color but tastes real good.  I drink a lot of jot strong tea, my weakness.  But a couple of times a day I grit my teeth and just drink some water because I know I should.........  Stops cramping at the gym.  There are worse things right.

    This is the first

This is the first time I hear about cancer cells feeds off sugar, I don’t know if I should be excited to know about it, since my diet consist of great amount of sugar, plus I too not a big fan of drinking water, and I can spend a whole day without drinking it, I used to add honey to the water to flavored, because it’s healthier than sugar and taste good, should I change this habit?

    There is a view among

There is a view among credible cancer agencies on whether it is the actual sugar itself that feeds off cancer or the effects that sugar has on the body (weight gain).

Here are some links to credible websites with information on cancer and sugar:

    http://www.mdanderson.org/publications/focused-on-health/issues/2012-november/cancersugar.html

    https://www.whatnext.com/blog/posts/does-cancer-feed-off-sugar

    http://www.breastcancer.org/risk/factors/unhealthy_food

    http://www.livestrong.com/article/499376-how-does-eating-sweets-affect-cancer/

I don't mean to sound crabby, but I have asked before, if you are going to claim that cancer feeds off sugar, please post web links from credible sources.

Personally, I will not just take your opinion as facts neither should anyone else, unless , of course, you are an oncologist.

Just because we see stuff on the internet, doesn't automatically true.

Natural sugars from fruits and honey are good for the body. ALL cells need some sugar to metabolize into energy. If you deprive the body of a normal, needed amount of sugar, they wont function properly. The mitochondria of the cell are the power houses that produce all cell energy and need something to power them.(This information came from my Anantomy and Physiology books and classes...sorry I am too tired to go upstairs and get the book.

    This is just to scare

This is just to scare people.  All of your cells need glucose (blood sugar) for energy. Healthy cells follow a life cycle of growth, division and death. Like leaves on a tree, old cells die off and are replaced by an equal number of healthy cells. Cancer develops when old cells refuse to die, but keep growing, dividing, and building up in one place – creating a a tumor.
