dumb doctors

May 22 my husband had kidney stones.

We have now met with  3 oncologists

Finally the 3rd one says we are stage 4. Advanced and aggressive  mestasized.  kidney cancer but he is waiting for the pathology slides from the 2012 peration to  determine if the primary is clear  cell or papillary.  So we have to wait  another week. Or two to even start s treatment plan.  

I have to put the cancer in a Box on the shelf for the next appt.  And pretend nothing is wrong I'm the meantime.

Grumble is my new favorite word:(

    How many docs does to find kidney cancer... sounds like a joke but I know it isn't funny. Sorry ,at least now you know what you are dealing with they can get on with treating it. Hang on in there you are doing great! Praying for you and your hubby. Take care.

    They (Doctors) take the word, "Practicing", too literally?

    Sorry for all the run around, but as phredswife mentioned - at least you know what it is.

    A bit confused

    has your husband had the surgery or is the pathology from a biopsy? I don't think that the oncologists differ so much; clear cell and papillary are different so it makes sense to know which it is.

    I don't understand why the pathology didn't reveal which type; stage 4 means it has metastasized and I believe that treating the mets might be different for clear cell and papillary.

    My husband had partial kidney and mass removal through laparoscope in December 2012.  The oncologist can’t tell by the written report whether our primary is clear cell or papillary.  He is requesting the pathology slides from the surgery done in December 2012 to see if he can determine it for himself.  It has metastasized he has a tumor on his kidney, 1 on his spleen, 1 on his lungs and lots of little one’s in his abdomen. 

     

    The thing that is most frustrating to me is that we first heard my husband had recurring kidney cancer either May 24 or May 31.  Then just yesterday we found out that 2 of the meds my husband is taking for rheumatoid arthritis is causing the cancer to be more aggressive.  So as of yesterday, he stopped taking it.  So here we are a month later, why didn’t someone tell us that before?! Oh grumble!

    thanks for clearing it up; before my husband's diagnosis, he was told to use Advil, not good for the kidneys.

    i certainly understand your frustration and so glad that you are on the right path to treatment.

    he takes Tylenol and

     

    he takes Tylenol and tramadol; the laminectomy occasionally hurts but he is generally pain-free.

    No more Advil

    You really have to give that up that Advil (Ibuprofen) when running only on one kidney.  Tylenol (Acetimeniphen; Paracetol) is acceptable for pain relief since it only stresses the liver.
