Questions about Xeloda

My Dr. wants to switch from 5Fu pump to Xeloda with Oxyalplatin and Avastin. Could you please share your experience with Xeloda pills and the side effects of the pill. Is there more nausea, diarrhea, pain, hair loss etc? Please let me know your experience as I am a little nervous about this and I know you are all so good at supporting each other. Thank you so much in advance.

    My husband just startd xeloda

My husband just startd xeloda a week ago.  So far no side effects...only problem is remembering to take them twice a day.  They told him to take 30 mins after eating and he's having a tough time keeping on schedule .    He goes for avastin, but no oxi and he said he feels like he hasn't had chemo.

    I have done 34 rounds of 5fu

I have done 34 rounds of 5fu and recently switched to Xeloda (6 rounds so far). which to me is way easier. No real nausea or diarrhea just fatigue towards the end of each cycle. I have almost no hand and foot syndrome which i know can get really bad for many people.

I was on Xeloda for a year.

I was on Xeloda for a year. Hands and feet start drying and turning a purpleish color.  That was my main side affect.   Vision after 6 months got blurry. The longer you are on it the more tired you get. Xeloda was much easier then 5FU.  Folfri and Irrotecan are harder on the body.   Of course, these are my side affects, every one is different m

    Hope you get great results.

    Xelado made me feel stripped

Xelado made me feel stripped inside and tired but it was tolerable compared to the oxaliplatin which was killer.  Severe sensitivity to cold. Weird tongue. Dry feet and hands (use creams from day one) . General malaise. I don't remember getting diarrhea until I did radiation.  Leg cramps (eat a lot of bananas, stay hydrated). No hair loss but very dry hair.  I worked for several months when on chemo. I took an antinausea daily for prevention. It double as an antianxiety. Ativan.

    For me Xeloda

I am on Xeloda for the second time, the first time was when I was diagnosed, I was on Oxy, Avastin and Xeloda, it knocked the crap out of my tumors and I got the surgery they said I could never have, this round (4 1/2 years later) I am on the Oxy and Xeloda.  I never had side effects from Xeloda, hands, feet are great, I cannot complain about Xeloda except for remembering to take it, and having something to eat before hand.  I ended up getting the day/night pill box and placing it on dresser so that I can see it when I enter bedroom and check to see if I had taken them.  Just remember to eat before hand other wise stomach just feels a bit off. Oh, and no hair loss.

    When you take Xeloda ...

With Oxaliplatine and Avastin I don't think you will notice the difference to 5FU, because the side effect of the Oxy are so dominant. I had the hand and foot syndrome, but it wasn't too bad. The Xeloda and the radiation combo killed all my cancer cells by the time of surgery.

I wish you the best of luck.
