Hi, Everyone...Newly Diagnosed
Hi, Everyone...I had my right kidney removed on May 22nd 2014 at MD Anderson. I had a 6cm (in greatest dimension) Clear Cell tumor. The path report stated 6cm Clear Cell Stage 1 Grade 2 confined to kidney. Also, no invasion into renal vein, renal sinus or perinephric adipose tissue. No lymphovascular invasion indentified. Margins of resection (ureteral, vascular, and soft tissue negative for tumor. Primary Tumor: pT1b and Regional Lymph Nodes: pNO. It states there is no gross extension in to the perinephric fat and does not extend to Gerota's fascia. The adjacent kidney parenchyma is unremarkable. The pelvicaliceal system is smooth and devoid of any lesions. I was wondering if anyone knows if confined to kidney means encapsulated?

Encapsulated!
Hi there,
Welcome to the site, sorry that you have had to join us. This is a good place to come if in need of support. I am pleased to hear that your cancer was caught in good time, and that everything went so well with the surgery. All in all very successful with the tumour being confined to the kidney, the meaning of fully encapsulated is within the kidney.
Heal well:)

Welcome Pandabear! Glad you found us!
Sounds like it is the same thing as contained within kidney and encapsulated. But maybe others may come on to clarify that more exactly.
Your report sounds good and very hopeful! Glad to hear that.
How are you feeling now? Healing up well?
Stay well my dear,
Jan

Panda,
Congrats on the excellent path report.
Although everything is fine 6cm carries a low risk of concerns in the future, Make sure you do all the follow up scans they suggest.

Truly sad
To say "hello and welcome" for this is a place I bet you never hoped you'd be.
BUT that being said - it is a place of support, opinions, coaching, laughs and virtual hugs. It's a wonderful place where all "know" what you are going through and thus not alone.
Glad you are recovering well, just remember to go at it slower than you want to. As has been repeatedly said to me, the recovery is for the long haul.
Also so glad that your results were so good 8-) A happy step in the right direction!

And since you have no major independant prognostic features your risk of recurrence is very low. Congratulations on that :-)
Your histology is almost similar to mine though I see your tumor and raise with 1.7 cm :-)

Hi, Galrim...HaHa..on the 1.7..:DDD...I'm happy to see that you are doing great after 4 years. That's gives me some peace. I have been really scared. So afraid that it will come back. I'm not sure how to overcome that fear. I suppose time will help. Thanks for commenting and sending Hugs your way...:)

Hi Pandabear and welcome!
It sucks for you to have to get to know us, it means we have something in common...RCC, and in our case, Clear Cell. I'm happy to hear your surgery was a success and you are cancer free. I too, am cancer free although I have a hard time wrapping my head around it still. My surgery was May 2013. I still think about it every day. Like you, I was stage 1, grade 2 with clear margins, yet, I can't seem to quit worrying that it will return. I wish I could offer some advice as to how to overcome the fear of recurrence but, I got nothin'. I keep hearing time will help. We shall see.
I traded my urologist in for an oncologist and instead of doing the standard urologist recommended chest x-ray every 6 months, I have the oncologist recommended chest, abdomen and pelvis ct's every 3 months. That has definitely given me some peace of mind. I've had 4 ct's since my nephrectomy, 3 of which the doctor was watching an enlarged node in my lungs. The 4th ct, last month was good, so I will now have my ct's at 6 month intervals. So stay on top of your follow ups and make sure you are getting the proper tests. I had to fight for it but, that's OK. I'm worth the fight and so are you!
Best of luck to you!

Hi Sindy...Sighhh, Yeah, Only 22 days from diagnosis to surgery for me. It just doesn't seem real yet. I had no symptoms and it was discovered by accident. So, I'm still in shock! It's nice to talk to someone who had nearly the same diagnosis as me. I am a patient at MD Anderson so I'm hoping that I get excellent advice and aftercare. But, I will make sure that I get all the appropiate scans on time. So happy to hear that your last CT was good. Stage 1 Grade 2 is supposed to have a good prognosis. I see you had a recent Hernia surgery. I hope you are feeling better today. Sending you Hugs and Positive Vibes for a speedy recovery. Take Care, Donna

will get better
Had the same thing happen with them finding the tumor totally by accident, and mine was also T1b (6cm) with clear edges. But now 3.5 months out and all is pretty good.
We are the lucky ones since they did catch it and now on the other side of the whole thing. Yes, dealing with the fact we have cancer is HARD. Wish I had tricks or such that will help ease that- but I still am fighting those same "demons". I will say that resuming my normal routines have helped. Running and such makes me feel like I am like I was before I found all this out.
It's the nights that are tough.
This board helps. People's senses of humor here are priceless!
You're "tough" and have made it this far. Since you conquered this - now imagine what other marvelous things you can do!
