On the road again...
Well folks, H&N Squamous part duex began today. I had radical neck dissection on the left side with a thyroidectomy two weeks ago and today we started 18 weeks of chemo. Three rounds of Carbo/tax/eributux and then 15 rounds of eributux alone. We took a CT (from abdomen to neck) on Monday as a bench mark and nothing showed in the neck but lots of nodules/tumors in the lungs. Doc said he thinks they are infectious (been aspirating like crazy since the surgery) BUT he also said he wouldn't be surprised if one or two was a cancer tumor. We both agree that there's nothing to be done in respects of knowing for sure as I'm being treated exactly as he would if we had a positive finding.
While radiation would be indicated, both the tumor board and my RadOnc agree that the danger of re-radiating the same are now that the dissection has taken so much tissue is extreme for really bad damage to the throat resulting in quality of life issues that I'm just not willing to risk.
Another interesting development is that he has been approved to run a PD-1 trial and I am within the target audience. If you haven't read any of the amazing articles on this revolutionary therapy please do so. I'll let you know more if I'm accepted and we move forward.
Best To All,
Joe

On the road again
Joe, it sounds like your on the same page as the Doctor and that's always a good thing. I had the Erbitux and honestly it wasn't too bad. i'm not sure about the combo but just the Erbitux alone is not too bad. You'll probably get a nasty case of acne on the face and a bad skin rash on your stomach and back. The doctor will give you some antibiotic lotion to put directly on it and that will help. I was on,y sick the first treatment and not again.
Good luck as you get going with the next step in the treatment plan. I hope you healed from the prior surgery.
Sending lots of positive vibes from North Dallas.

So it looks like you're just about
to be in the thick of it again. Wishing you the very best, Joe.....sending positive thoughts on those nodules.....if any of them are cancer, you'll be getting enough chemo to kick their little butts.
What's this revolutionary therapy about? I am VERY interested......
Hang in there, Joe......you're an **** kicker, and have been from the first day I met you.

Not Sure Yetcorleone said:Hi Joe,
There are several companies developing drugs that block the action of PD-1. I wonder if in your case it’s Pembrolizumab (MK-3475), Merck’s Investigational Anti-PD-1 Antibody?
My medonc is being tight lipped about the trial for now until it's fully iplemented so, we'll see.
Phran, there are litterly hundreds of articles on Immunotherapy on the web but here is a simplestic account that will give basic understanding. There are two video's on the first page that are informative.
and this one also
Realize that they are Puff pieces from Bristol Myers, but the data is sound for basic understanding.

Hi Joe,
Thanks for the update. I've been wondering how things were going. Glad to hear treatments are underway. I'm rooting for you! Don
My second go round of chemo (erbitux/taxol) was so much easier on me than the original cisplatin combined with rads. It was very doable, I worked 3 days a week throughout. I know what you mean about choices when it comes to quality of life and hope you won't find it necessary to cross that bridge. Hope and faith will take you far with this journey.
God Bless
