Doctor, Doctor.
Have you talked to your Doctor? That may be your best bet. You may just have hemeroids that have become irritated and are bleeding. Happens to me all of the time.
You May just need a 'look see' before getting a colonoscopy.
Of course, if you are over 50 and have never had a colonoscopy, you should get one regardless.
saying that, colonoscopies are not bad at all. The drink is yukki though.

Hi Dawn, Preparing for the
Hi Dawn, Preparing for the test is a little obnoxioius, the stuff tastes gross and you have to drink a lot. I've done it six times in the last 3 years. The test itself is easy peasy. They knock you out, you wake up, all done. It's worth the test and the rule is don't worry until you have to. It could be so many things, go find out right away so you can stop worrying and fix whatever it is.

They don't knock me out. It gets a bit uncomfortable, but its worth it just to watch the screen.

Wow, really? That's actually pretty cool. I got to see a sigmoidoscopy but never a colonoscopy. . . Oh and after the colonscopy there is some gas but if you do side hands and toe touches, it passes much faster.

my colonoscopy
my colonoscopy was a bunch of years ago, but i do remember the prep - nasty stuff. they give you some anesthesia (twilight anesthesia - mostly knocked out). when they were nearly done they woke me up enough to talk a bit. i turned my head and i swear there where thirty ppl in that liitle room - one guys was delivering flowers on the floor and just popped in to take a peek at the procedure. i dunno, they said there might have been only four ppl, but it sure seemed like 30 to me. all staring at a monitor showing my insides. i remember thinking i hoped that was a really tiny camera and not a camcorder like i had at home. to this day i am not certain it was not a camcorder.
nah - it was fine. "easy peasy" is the right way to phrase it.

Soon to be 82, I had my last colonoscopy last week. Still NED. I too wanted to watch. Occasionally uncomfortable, but worth not being put to sleep. Watching was a blast!!!

Congratualtions and many, many happy dances .
What wonderful news. And no more colonoscopies. Very nice indeed. But then, at 82, you deserve it.
Go Danker !

Also, I'm looking for a hospital that gives me a DVD or videotape of the procedure.

Welcome to the forum. Why don't you start a new thread and tell us a bit about yourself. Are you already a cancer patient? If not, I hope you never become one.
As for the colonoscopy thing. I'm sure most GI Doctors would do a colonoscopy without knock out meds, if you ask. Mine is fine with it. I love watching the procedure, even though it does get a bit intense at times.
The DVD is a different matter. I get pictures, but I don't think they video it themselves. I'd just ask. If you don't ask, you won't find out.
Good luck.
