    oh, the possible combinations

    Sara,

Untrue, chemo in conjunction with rads is common for Tonsil cancer.

Chemo without rads is used in select cases.

Rads without chemo is not unheard of.

For me, surgery, rads and Erbitux.

    From being on this board

for just a little over 2 years, I'd say that most (not every single person), but most.... have both chemo and rads, and many have surgery as well.  Chemo sets up those cancerous little bugger cells so they get their heads shot off by the rads.  There are different types of chemo used, and different lengths of time for radiation....and some get chemo before rads along with chemo during rads (and some get rads and chemo, with more chemo after radiation is over)....there's lots of variation in that department....

    Hi again Sara

I been here a long time and never did hear anything like that, your doc and his team will normally get together and take each case on a one by one bases to decide what is the best way to treat you and your C. Sometimes if the C is less than a stage 1 they might treat it with just radiation other doc might use both radiation & Chemo. I hope this helps

    WRONG

    Like mentioned...

I too was Dx in Jan2009, STGIII SCC Tonsils and a lymphnode, HPV+,,

Tx consisted of tonsils removed, nine weeks of Cisplatin, Taxotere and 5FU all in three week cycles.. That followed up with seven weeks of concurrent weekly Carboplatin and 35 daily rads sessions...

So chemo was very much a part of my treatment.

Actually the tumor completely dissolved away during the first nine weeks, before rads even started...

BTW, five years clean and clear...

    Best,

    John
