6 year NED but urinary issues-radiation side effects??

Dad has been NED for 6 years now and had a small suspected recurrence last year

Avastin and folfiri (4 cycles) and tumour was completely gone(or never existed),do not know.

Off late the radiation from the intial surgery has been causing a lot of fibrosis and his urinary tract and bladder have been affected.

He developed hydronephrosis in both kidneys and the creatinine went up to 3.6.

An emergency procedure of placing a ureteral stent and a PCN(per cutaneous nephrostomy)-urine bag :( was placed last night.

Has anyone encountered such complications after such a long time..any experience on how to break the news that he needs a urine bag as well along with colostomy would be useful.

thanks as usual.

    Tell your dad

that you are converting his bathroom into a games room.

No, I don't mean to make light of what is a very stressfuill situation for your father. Even thinking that someone can 'look on the bright side' doesn't always work.

I am happy to hear that he is NED, but again, it proves that Cancer dogs our steps regardless of the amount of time we can 'live' without it.

As for being serious about how to tell your day, all I can say is that you are the one that knows him well. His emotianal responses to such news are privy to you and those closest to him. I pray that you can find the way that suits him best.

I personally would like the information up front, and I always fly well with humour.

    My thoughts are with you.
