How long does nausea last on average after pump out

in Anal Cancer #1

Made it through the first week of radiation and chemo. Yay. Now can say I'm halfway through chemo. But it was rough. Constant, constant nausea. Compazine didn't help much, mainly just put me to sleep, which I guess was okay. Pump out yesterday, have a bit of energy today, but still somewhat nauseated. This WILL go away in a day or two I hope? Know I will NEVER used lavender Downey fabric softener again, tho, lol.

    Dear Friend,

    Everybody is different. I had no nausea at all. Handle it with medicine and gentle diet.

    Nausea

    I was prescribed Promethazine, 25 MG, to be taken every 4 hours. It helped. Try to keep yourself hydrated also.

    I found that Zofran helped with the nausea for me.  I wasn't too nauseous, but whenever it started to hit me, I took Zofran.  I finished treatment in January, so this is all fairly fresh in my mind.  One thing I think many of us suffer from is thinking we can power through this.  This is not the time to be a hero.  About a week after the first chemo finished, my mouth started to be sore, I continued rinsing with salt water and baking soda and waited until my next scheduled appointment to tell the doc.  By then I was a real mess.  I should not have waited.  If something doesn't feel right, CALL the doc!

    I am sending you positive thoughts to help you get through this.  As everyone says, it's not easy, but it's doable.  I cannot believe how far I've come!

    Compazine did nothing for me.

    Compazine did nothing for me.  Zofran was much better.  My nausea only lasted for the week of chemo.  It was worse during the 2nd chemo week.

    Some very good advice I got

    Some very good advice I got prior to starting treatment was to take the anti-nausea medication (can't remember which type I had) on schedule - don't wait for the nausea to kick in to take it. I likened it to motion sickness - once you've got it, it's hard to get rid of - taking the Dramamine prior to going on the boat or whatever helped, but not if you took the Dramamine after you're already sick. Hope this helps.

    I never had nausea.  They gave me Zofran as soon as the started the chemo and told me to take it as prescribed the entire time I was on the pump and I believe a few days after.  They told be if I did get nausea (even while on the Zofran) that Atavan (the anti-anxiety med.) worked great for it.  Good Luck!

    Thank you!

    It's good to be on the other side and know that the treatment, while difficult is doable.  However, I could not have gotten through without the support of everyone here!

    I was given two drugs

    They told me if the first didn't work, then take the second one. The second one put me sound asleep. I am sorry I don't remember what they were, but ask for a second nausea medication.
