Sore Mouth
I had 10 chemo and 35 radiation treatments for oral cancer to tongue. My last treatmeant was on Jan 30. My mouth/tongue is still so sore I can barely eat a few bites of soft food. Is there any suggestions on what to do to help this. I have been using magic mouthwsh and salt and baking soda water.

sore tongue
Amy, I had a few boughts with Thrush and it can really be painful. Even 9 months post treatment I have to stay on top of it. You might try drinking some protein shakes made with whoe milk until you can eat better. You need to get some protein to start getting energy, weight back and the whole milk drinks (i really couldn't do the frozen milk shakes because really cold hurt me as well) really helped me out.
Good luck!

sore tongue
Amy7143,
Welcome to the H&N forum and congratulations for making it through treatments in one piece.
A sore tongue can persist for some time and just when you think things are alright you will eat or drink something that will put you in your place. Finishing treatments is just the beginning of the next experiment.
You are doing what I did to combat the sore tongue and you should start to feel improvements soon. Check with your doctor, make sure all is well and have a protein drink.
I did not eat seriously for 7 months post; I tried foods all the time, but lived on smoothies. Today at 2 years I can eat most anything, but shy away from too hot or too spicy.
