Things moving quicker than originally planned

Good morning all. I received a call Friday from my Onco Nurse, she said he and pulmonary doc discussed my CT and the issue with my pleural efflusion not improving since the 8 weeks I habe been off Taxotere. Their consensus is I have a Para Mallignant Efflusion, since none of my lung fluid has ever showed the presence of cancer cells. They say 50% of the time the lab cannot find cells. I'm am now going to start Cisplatin this coming Friday, and every Friday going forward. the expectation if the Cisplatin works the the fluid should fix itself.

Wish me luck

Mike

    Good luck Mike!

Have you had cisplatin before? Hopefully, getting it in weekly doses won't be too hard on you. I know once they dropped my dose to weekly, it was allot easier for me to handle. Smaller doses more often. I had mine in combo with the rads2012  so hard to say what was tough on me, the rads or chemo. Getting it solo should be easier. I know my recent taxol/erbitux was so much easier stand alone than with rads.

    Prayers are with you!

As always, thanks for the updates and your courageous attitude in your fight with the beast. Sorry to hear the source did not point elsewhere. But chemo is hardly a stranger to you so you know the drill. Best wishes and thought for you. Don

    Port

Do you have a port?  I lost my poor veins to cisplatin.  Stay hydrated.  I had something added in and slept like a baby at the center.  I hope that this does the trick for you.

    Cisplatin Before

Hi Candi, yes I had Cisplatin my first time around. One whopping dose every 3 weeks while getting both sides of my neck radiated. It was horrible then, but I had worse side effects from the rads. It was the only drug that my cancer did not re appear, so I feel like it will work again. My doc also says the smaller weekly dose should minimize the side effects.

    Port

Yes, I had a power port put in 2 yrs ago. I've been lucky with my veins as the working out keeps them huge. I actually get all of my blood drawn and IV contrast through my AC vein in my arm. It's just so much quicker vs the lab trying to find an RN and do the port.

    NOCO TOUGHNESS

Yes sir, brought a lot of North County hood toughness to Tx. I'm getting a little worried about the Blues, but Coach Hitchcock expects most if not all of the injured players will be game ready Thursday.

    Miss you brother.

    Things moving

mike, I didn't have Cisplatin but it doesn't sound like you're a stranger to it or what to expect.   Good luck as you get started and get it behind you.

    All the best,

    Prayers...

    Prayers your way...

Can't really speak of side effects of either, though I had both Taxotere and Cisplatin simultaneously...

I know with the Cisplatin especially, they start flushing your kidneys with lasix and such right away... You'll be the Pee King more than likely like I was.

So sit close to the head, and drag your pump with you if you have one...

It's like the first pee after drinking for awhile... Your good until the first pee, then every few minutes you gotta go...

Hang in there bro..., beat this thing.
