Shingles

Good heavens !  After this occurrance, are they recommending the shingles vaccination for you ?  My sister in law had this really bad a few yrs. back, and after had the shot and so far no more.  This is totally not fair, I'm so sorry you have to endure it.  Let us know how you're doing throughout.  Hugs sent !  Katie 

Sorry you have the shingles on top of all you have endured.  I was about to get the shot and then had to suspend it as I had to have my scc surgeries and then came rads so I will ask if I can have it now.  Your plight has reminded me to take the vaccine.  Most of my friends who have had it did not even have cancer and one was too young for the vaccine.

So very sorry to hear this.  It's just one damned thing after another...  Reminds me that my GP gave me a prescription to get a shingles vaccination shot.  I put it off, as I got the whooping cough vaccination first, and wanted to wait a bit before getting another.  Here's hoping for a quick and painless resolution of this issue.  xxxooo

poor you I feel for you, I had shingles a couple of years ago around my waist and that was bad enough, huge blisters and a pain I'd hate to experience again. In my eye's since Christmas. Has been absolutely horrible.

The rash broke out on the right side of my forehead and on my hairline. Although my right eye was effected worse, Shingles did eventually get into my left eye as well, so if you've still got one healthy eye you need to be VERY vigilant because it can get into the eye that's away from the rash...

Any sign of redness, discomfort or light intolerance in your good eye you need to get to your general DR immediatly (anti-viral ointment is the first line fo treatment)

Ask to be referred to a specialist. I was left from Christmas to March without seeing a specilist (good old NHS again) and having minimal treatment.  When I finally took matters into my own hands and payed to see a specialist private I was told my GP should have referred me to him at Christmas, as even the suspicion of Shingles in the eye's is basically a medical emergency.

I was left so long without the correct treatment that as well as having Shingles in my eye's I also had a serious bacterial infection (probably from acne) deep within my eye's. I was actually quite seriously ill and certainly felt it.

Things have picked up after taking long courses of steroids, antibiotics and anti-virals, but my eyes are still not right and I still feel generally ill within myself.

Shingles can be very, very nasty, so do take care of yourself.

I mentioned shingles to my doctor, post treatments and the next thing they were sticking the vaccine in my arm.

I watched my Mom go through it and did not want any of that for me.

So sorry to hear that you have shingles. I had them 2 years ago on my shoulder. It was during my tx but they never got too bad. Hopefully, that will be the case with yours too.

Shingles is a condition starting to creep up my list of post tx conditions tha are on the radar much like dental issues. It seems to hit us far more often than the general public and I understand it can be triggered by stress --  and boy do we have to manage that alot.

What's the scoop on this vaccine? If it is at all reasonably effective at stopping it or minimizing the symtpoms, shouldn't we all be getting them without even asking or at a minimum asking our doctor if it would help?
