First Gig Since Treatment!
Well....
I did it! My first public performance in a year and a half. When we drove to the mountain, the sign said that Skyland was "FULL"! That means a packed house in the lounge where I perform. The weather was beautiful albeit pretty cold at 3500ft but it was a gorgeous drive.
Set up/sound check and hit the stage at 8:30 for my 90 minute show. WOW! What can I say? I was pretty anxious about my voice but it held out and I sounded good. I felt relaxed and at ease. It was as if I never took a break. I started to lose my voice a bit at the very end but not noticeable to anyone but me. As I perform more, my voice will gain strength and hopefully my higher registers will return. The best part was that for a time while I was on stage, I forgot about the cancer. I have been so concious of how my neck and throat feel when I sing but there were moments that I was lost in the music and it didn;t even cross my mind.
Lots of folks came up afterwards with very kind words and the tip jars were packed full
I'm BACK!

So happy your first gig was a success. May you have many more.

I love live music! It is part of our heritage in Liverpool. Have you spoken to Denis on this site who is an English muso who emigrated to the US in the 70s? And as I cant make your gig do you have a link to any of your performances so that I can have a listen. Well done mate. Performing is a gift that I don't have but I am in awe of. And you still have it!

I call it "Eclectic Acoustic Ear Candy"Mikemetz said:Good on ya!
Congrats on the first gig back!
What kind of music do you play?
mike
I do a rather eclectic mix of acoustic music. From 60's to current. I tend to mix in some well known and unknown music and artists. Just music that fits my style and tastes. Because I can pick and choose my gigs and venues, I don't have to cater to anyone inparticular. When I perform, I do "mini sets" of an artist or subject. "Songs from Scrubs", "Cat Stevens", "Jethro Tull", "Lyle Lovett", "Jim Croce", etc....
Positive thoughts and prayers

awesome
This is awesome. I am so happy for you!!!
I'm guessing I'll never perform again I've played guitar for 40 years, have taught lessons for over 20 yearsl. My CD of fingerstyle instrumentals were featured in guitar player magazine and play on the radio internationally. Lessons were my main income and since I can't talk I can't teach. I have a broken heart

You forgot about the cancer.....
That's really great news "T". The best part was, you got lost in the music and for that moment it was only the music, nothing else. Gota love those moments. There will be many more and much more often for you now. God bless those brief moments when all seems "like it used to be".

I think everyone will fine a LOT of inspiration in this. To go through a major battle with (tongue/throat?) cancer and still be able to come back and perform pretty much like you did before is such an achievement.
When I think of the terrible state I got myself into last year when I thought I might have tongue cancer and that it was the end of my life as I know it, etc... Your experiance show's this is not the case at all.
Congrats and long may you continue to perform.
