Desperate for any advice

in Colorectal Cancer #1

Hi Everyone I'm hoping that reaching out on the board may bring to light an option we haven't tried or heard of. My dad was diagnosed 5 years ago next month with stage 4 colon cancer he underwent surgery removing most of the colon, infected lymphnodes and part of the intestine. They performed hipec and 3 months later he started oxyplatin with I think 5fu. He had a bad reaction changed drugs was stabalized on different drugs. He recently had a stent put in as he haa a tumor blocking the bile duct. They now put him back on the drug combos he has already been on as he has been on everything. He has severe bloating and gas and can't eat and is now skin and bones. He's severely anemic is not a candidate for surgery and there too many tumors in the peritanatal cavity for ablation. Now he's suffering but still has a will to fight. Is there anything else out there that someone has had success with?

    Has he looked into clinical trials?

    It may be difficult to find one, given his condition, but if he wants to try something, it's worth looking into what's put there.  You can check out trials at this website: http://www.clinicaltrials.gov/.

    You can also click on that link to the left in the blue box that says Clinical Trials Finder.  I think that will give you a phone number you can call to talk to someone about trials.

    I'm really sorry your dad, and your family, is facing this.  It's very hard.

    The other thing that i would suggest,

    is to make sure that he has a palliative care team working for him, if he doesn't already.  It sounds like he's at a point in this journey where there is a lot of physical suffering, and a "comfort care" team can help to minimize that as much as possible.  He can still keep up the fight, but just have a little more comfort to do it.  Pain is exhausting and make it very difficult to stay in fighting mode, so getting it reduced as much as possible is a good thing.
