2 surgeries in a week - update at bottom
Hi,
I believe I wrote that **** had surgery last Monday to get specimens to be sent to a biotech company. I will keep you updated on any progress from the company. It will take 2 to 3 months. That surgery went well even though he has been in pretty bad shape the past month or so. The lymphedema has been very bad and one of his legs had to be wrapped almost all the time. He has not been able to go in the ocean and the past 2 weeks he had been awake only about 5 hours a day. The pain was very bad and he was on a lot of pain meds. He had been off chemo for 5 weeks. We went to the oncologist thinking that he could start chemo again in a week. The meeting was hard as **** was in such bad shape. Pain, fatigue, quite out of it. Half way through the visit his numbers come back and his kidney numbers were very bad. The oncologist said he had to go into the hospital right then. There were no hospital beds available so **** waited it out in the oncologist's office on a bed. I wheeled him to the hospital for an ultra sound and then back across the street again for an appointment with his wonderful urologist (he saw him immediately at 3:00 Friday). The urologist said, let's put stents in at 9:30am tomorrow. **** finally got checked into the hospital in a quite room with even a view of the ocean. Surgery (his second for the week) was at 9:30am and he was back up at the room by 2:00pm. By 4:00 he was eating, talking and looked so much better than he had in 2 months. And boy did the fluid come out. His kidneys had been a mess because the ureters had been blocked up, probably from cancer or scars, and once they got the stents in it was a huge relief. I am happy to say that his kidney numbers were normal today and the edema is way down. We hope that the stents can keep things flowing for a long time and he can get back on chemo and beat back the cancer. We also hope the edema stays away or is at least greatly diminished. I am finally home and he will be home tomorrow.
That's our story for the past week. This is a hard road and I am grateful when we get any bit of positive outcome. I hope he can get back up on his surfboard soon. I'll keep you posted.
Aloha,
Kathleen

Thank you so much for taking the time to update. I have been wondering about you guys. So sorry to hear of the extreme pain & complications, but glad it has been corrected. Cancer and treatments do so many lousy things to a person.
JBG will be having surgery on Wednesday to take care of the fistula. She has been unable to get as strong as her surgeon would have liked, but needs to have it done ASAP. I spoke with her last night & she remains as positive as possible despite the pain & breathing difficulty.
I will hold you & **** in my heart as I do my JBG.
Luv,
Wolfen

Wow, what an ordeal. I am
Wow, what an ordeal. I am glad to hear that the stents seem to have worked. I am sure you are exhausted. I see what it does to my wife. Make sure you take care of yourself as well as ****. I hope he can be on the ocean again soon.

Going through the wringer
I am so very sorry to hear that **** continues to suffer, but take heart to know that the stent has eased his pain somewhat.
I am glad for his ocean view, and pray that he will be comforted.
I also pray that you will find comfort, and some time to de-stress.
Bless you both!

So glad **** has found relief and will go home
You both must be exhausted with what has transpired. I've been checking for an update and glad you posted. It sounds like great progress has been made, and I know you are both relieved! Now he can get on with beating this cancer.
Please know so many of us are praying and keeping you and **** in our thoughts.
Hugs and Healing,
Priscilla

Hi
Hi Friends,
I can't tell you how much it warms my heart to hear from you. Thank you. **** came home yesterday. Last night we were still working on his pain control He is taking 1/2 of what he was taking 2 weeks ago so things are better. But we are still working on it with some adjustments from his oncologist today. I am happy to say that my wonderful mom arrived yesterday and she is staying for 2 weeks. Also, ****'s best friend, who is also a commercial pilot, flew in today and spent the evening with us. It is great to have my husband home. My prayer is he will continue to feel better. My guess is he will have chemo next week.
Thank you for all your support.
Aloha,
Kathleen

I know that all is not well, but to be home, and have your mum and a good friend visit, must be a wonderful uplift for ****, and a great help to you.
I pray that **** will continue to improve, and soon life will get back to the 'new' normal that we have to accept.
Blessings!

You and **** are amazing. Amazing as individuals and together, you make an amazing couple. I was so distressed to read of his recent challenges but then so happy to read that he is out of the hospital feeling relief from the pain. In your loving care I am sure he will recover quickly from the surgery and be surfing very soon.
Me ka aloha pumehana,
Amy
