Resection or microwave ablation
Waiting. For a decision as to what is to be done - micro wave ablation or resection to the recurrent metastases in the liver - met 2cm x 2.5 cm as per current MRI result (yesterday) - in segment 4a
am worried if they go for a resection as the recovery would b painful as it was last time
docs are going to give me a choice in half an hour _ they all prepared for either treatment
any suggestions - have an hour to decide

I was just informed that the docs have decided to do a resection of the liver tomorrow ather than a microwave ablation - so I guess I am in a long recovery period - this is really toll taking
the first resection was pretty bad and it took me over 2 months to recover - the first one was a long and major operation die to large billboard mets and resulted in many minor complications extending the hospital stay to 15 days or so.
this resection is for a peripherally located met - in segment 4a - So maybe a wedge resection . His is a second recurrence in a year and a half after the liver resction , the previous one was 6 months ago.
Any tips on how to make the recovery less painful and faster this second time around ?

They made the right decision. Resection is still the gold standard. I had interventional radiologist tell me to get a resection in the past if I was operable. I wish that was the case this time.

Liver surgeon was just here few minutes back to discuss the operation tomorrow .
The surgeon says that he is in favour of resection over ablation because the met is superficial and he can remove it - the ablation will damage more tissue which is not desirable - so in case of a resection the amt of tissue removed is half of what an ablation would destroy.
i did ask him about recovery period etc as It was really painful the first time aroundmand quote longer lasting.
he says the met is small and superficial so he may just do with one vertical cut approx 4 to 5 inches and may not need a horizontal cut -
however , he says that I may have to stay atleast 7 days in the hospital and another 7 days before I can travel - as I stay in india and am currently in Germany for the treatment.
i am worried about this rather large recovery period and the long hospital stay .
Any suggestions how to get through it - I dont know how I managed it the last time I was here .
