New Girl
I have been reading posts this week and found the comments very helpful and then I read the Welcome to Hogwarts post. I knew I found a second family.
I have a big mass and a supraclavicular node (left side) that is enlarged so I am sure of my diagnosis. My 80+ mom is 3yrs since chemo so I know the drill.
Having an ultrasound tomorrow
Just got Medicaid Monday and hooked up with a primary today. Since I am a planner I already picked a surgical practice and oncology practice.
Have one question now. If I start chemo 1st ,(hoping) how long after getting a port do you think I can walk mom’s 70lb dog? He is 10 but still has tons of energy. He is special needs so it either try to take care of him or put him down. The monthly costs for him are over $100, plus $500-$700 vet bill every couple of months. Nobody is going to take that on.
I’ll be back in a day or so with tons of questions.
I have not shared my suspicions with any family or friends, so thanks for letting me have a voice.

Port recovery is not lengthy,
Port recovery is not lengthy, really. My sequence was surgery, as it was those results that put me into chemo in addition to radiation. So, I was still recovering from my surgery when my port was put in. So, it is difficult for me to give you specifics, other than my initial statement.
Hope things fall into place for you smoothly and that whatever comes your way you will find yourself able to get through them. I know for me, knowing what my end goal was kept me focused through the tougher parts.

I have not had any problems
I have not had any problems with my port. It was placed ~1 year ago. I do have sheepskin-like cover for my seatbelt because sometimes the seatbelt bothers it. We have two dogs and I have not had a problem with the port. Good luck!!! And welcome. (((hugs))))

Hope everything goes well for you. Sorry you had to join us. I did not have a port, but had chemotherapy and I walked my (little) dog almost every day. If your doggie can skip a day here and there when you might not be feeling so great, I think he will do fine. There are rescue places that will take dogs with special needs if necessary. Maybe there are even volunteers (SPCA?) who will walk the dog on days tht you may not feel like it. Please let us know how your ultrasound goes and what your plans are.
