2nd scan after surgery(creatinine levels way to high)

I can't offer words of wisdom but just wanted to say I'm sorry for what you're dealing with. It must be so scary, the very idea of dialysis and transplant. 

I'm sure next Monday can't come soon enough but, try not to worry yourself sick.  I hope you'll keep us posted, let us know what doc says.  Till then, I'll be thinking about ya.

Hi Brian,

I am sorry that you are going through this. I know someone else who lost her first kidney cancer and now she is prone to kidney stones, which poses a problem. Before I lost my kidney, I had very little knowledge of kidney function and health problems due to kidneys. I have another friend who has been on dialyisis for years and years. It is a lifestyle adjustment but he still did everything. I am sure this challenge is very scary for you. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Keep us posted!

It did sound a little fishy that you went from good bloodwork 3 months out to being on a kidney transplant wait list 3 months later. The nephrologist should be able to keep your kidney function stable and will probably take over your BP monitoring from your GP. One of the things I have learned from seeing a Nephrologist is that maintaining your kidney heath is important to your heart heath down the road and that the effect of bad kidney numbers has more effect on a heart incident than the chance of you needing dialysis.

I am not sure about the numbers you were using as Kidney function is measured by GFR. A number over 90 is good for the general population while a number greater than 60 is good for us one kidney guys. Numbers between 30 and 59 are classified as stage III Chronic Kidney disease (CKD). Most of us with 1 kidney have numbers below or way below 60 anyway. Mine has ranged between 37 and 47 this past year. My age of 70 has something to do with that.

So do not get overly depressed if you are classified as Stage III CKD now or at some time in the future. The bark is worse than the bite.

I have overreacted a time or two...OK, more than a few times.  That makes us normal.  It's OK.  Probably won't be the last time you overreact, cancer tends to do that to a person.  Hopefully, your docs will get you straightened out and you can relax a bit.
