First Chemo
I just got back from my first chemo treatment. I was sooooo nervous. It was much easier than I had expected.
I had a port put in Tuesday afternoon - so only have had it about 3 days - still pretty tender. BUT my Dr had prescribed anesthetic cream to rub on skin about a hour before treatment. It really worked. Much easier for me than an IV. Now, actually getting the port was NO easier matter as far as I'm concerned but now it is in and I don't have to face IV every time. She also Ok'd an ativan before the procedure Guess it helped but I was still concerned.
After needle in place. just sit back in recliner with feet up. Was brought blankets, pillows, snacks. I did some hand sewing.
I had none of the effects of chemo meds that I was warned might occur while I was there - Of course, I just got home so expecting to face many of the common problems.
Have already ordered a wig (just in case)
Thanks so much fro all your support, Barb

Dee, Sounds like we are
Dee, Sounds like we are starting this journey together. So far so good on the first chemo treatment. Have not felt nauseous. i even went to watch my grandson's first ever Little League game yesterday. Only stayed 3 innings - tiring. I was so greatful to get to be there. Thanks for your reply - Try not to be too anxious - it wasn't as bad as you think. Barb

First Chemo
Congratulations, Barb, on completing your first chemo! Are you getting Taxol and Carboplatin? I found my first cycle of chemo made me feel quite tired due to all the Benadryl and steroids that were infused first to lower the risk of an allergic reaction, I think, to the Taxol. Each time that I've gotten the chemo, I normally start feeling a reaction about 3 days later. Prior to that, though, I would feel a little dizzy especially if I moved too quickly. I have had 5 cycles of chemo and only have one more to go. I think that you will find that the chemo is not that bad- that it is doable. I hope that you have minimal side effects and can function normally. Aside from the time I spent getting the chemo, I only missed one day of work and that was because the last chemo I had made me feel really weak, tired and nauseated. I hope that it goes well for you throughout your treatment.
Take care and best wishes, Cathy

Yes Carboplatin & Taxol. I feel Ok still. Tired though - slept till 9 this morning and just got up from a nap. Also my legs ache - chemo pharmasist told me that is common and may last through the whole tx. UGH My oncologist has me off work until Nov. I'll be 65 in Dec. so think I'll just retire then.
Good Luck with your last treatment Will you get radiation then? Barb
