in Colorectal Cancer #1

Looking for any information about avastin. My mom is dealing with incurable cancer and her dr told her yesterday that he was adding avastin to her chemo treatment that she is getting tomorrow. Side effects sound scary. Thank u so much!!! God bless

    Hi there

    I too have incurable cancer and i have a combination of chemo drugs, one of which is Avastin. All chemo drugs have side effects unfortunately but a lot of the worst ones are pretty rare. I have a few side effects from Avastin as well as from the other chemo but the combination is the best way to try and stop the spread. I hope your mum tolerates it well and has a good response.

    Avastin is often added to the chemo regimen

    for colon/rectal cancer.  Try not to worry too much about the list of side effects!  They have to put in every single thing that has ever happened to a patient (and been reported) while on this medication.  Some really are common, but many are not (and may actually be due to some other issue).  Most of us who have had Avastin haven't had major side effects, and hopefully your mom will be in that category too.  And Avastin has made a significant difference in outcome for many, so there's every reason to be hopeful!

    Dear Friend,

    Avasting slows down the blood vessel formation for the cancer, this way it slows down or stops the growth. In the meantime other chemo agents are killing the cancer cells. I think other patients noted nose bleeding here as a most common side effect. The only major conolication is the perforation of the colon. As the avastin and chemo killing the cancer cells, it is possible to get a hole in the colon. So just keep and eye on cramps and possible pain and report everything to your doctor.

    I really hope it works for her.

    Thank everyone so much!! She actually has cervical cancer. I was on the gyno cancer board but someone said I could find more information about avastin on this one. It has just recently been approved for cervical cancer. It is so wonderful how people are willing to answer your questions when they are dealing with their on fight. I appreciate it so much.     The only main thing

    To remember about Avastin, is that it can elevate your blood pressure, so your mom needs to make sure her blood pressure is checked and if she takes or will have to take blood pressure medicine while on it, then she needs to make sure she takes them.

    As for Avastin side affects, the usual is high blood pressure and not much of anything else, but remember high blood pressure is bad, so make sure to keep it in check!!

    For me it's just been a

    For me it's just been a couple nosebleeds not vey bad ones. My blood pressure is always on the lower end go figure
