CT Lung biopsy

in Lung Cancer #1

Hi I'm a new member from Canada. My husband as a 1 cent. lung nodule that althought small as been growing over the last 16 months and went from being smooth to spiculated so they will be scheduling a CT biopsy.He is most affraid of his lung collapsing than anything else right now.As anyone of you ever have this happen during a biopsy ?

    Rare occurrence.

    I had two biopsies and was terrified that I might experience a collapsed lung.  It had happened to my mom.  It's rare but it does happen.  Ask his surgeon or dr about the possibility of doing as EBUS biopsy.

    Lung Biopsy

    My husband had a lung biopsy last February and it was a needle biopsy (CT used).  We were told upfront that his lung could collapse but they didn't think it would.  They had to do the needle biopsy three times in order to get enough cells to test.  Yes his lung did collapse but he never complained about much pain and was in the hospital for 2 days.  His lung pretty much reinflated within one day but they kept him in to watch him.  He said that the needle biopsy wasn't too painful.  And yes it is cancer which is a spread for him from his second primary at the cervical of his esophagus.  First primary was laryngeal cancer for which he had radiation, chemo (late 2010) and then surgery in early 2011.

    Of course my husband as been trying to find any information he can (forgive my English I'm French ) and from what we read the lungs are always in mouvement  so it is sometimes harder to biopsy and the nodule is only 1 centimeter. We don't know if it's malignant or not and now the nurse called yesterday and the doctor as also booked him for a brain MRI. We'll just have to wait and see.

    Hopefully they will do the

    Hopefully they will do the biopsy before the MRI.  They should establish that it is cancer before they do an MRI to look for metastices.
