A bit apprehensive
I have an appt for day surgery on my throat blockage on Monday, I was told they will look to see why it's blocked and think it's probably rad tissue. I,m told if they can they will stretch my throat. I,m quite excited that I may be able to swallow next week but apprehensive that it may not work. can you swallow straight away after the op. has anyone gone for months unable to swallow but can swallow after the opening is made. I'm told to keep up with my swallowing exercises even after.

altho i didn't go w/o being
altho i didn't go w/o being able to swallow, i've had my throat stretched several times. i could swallow right away and it helped as i was able to swallow food w/o it getting stuck. the procedure should work right away, at least it always does for me. praying it works and you are able to swallow and eat everything.....let us know.
God bless you,
dj

Here's hoping it works
I had four dilations within the first two years after rads, and none since (3 years now). The stretching worked fast every time. Because I had four so soon, I thought I would have dilations for the rest of my life. Luckily, that's not the case. I know that could change, but for now, I am doing well. Still doing the small bites, chew, chew, chew, chew, sip, sip, sip, sip--and swallow carefully, but it's manageable.
Good luck.

Hope the surgery went well today. I did not have that problem, but was dilated twice. Sometimes, it feels like there is blockage and as mentioned, I must chew well and in smaller amounts. Aloha!

I had the procedure yesterday but it didn't work. I was worried it might be cancer blocking the throat but the surgeon said it was just scar tissue so I'm relieved about that. I will get more chances but I won't be seeing the onc for a month. He said I would be referred to another surgeon who specialises in dilations He had a good explore down my throat and my tongue is sore where it was held probably with forcet type thingy I have a blood bruise on top of my tongue and a sore patch underneath where they pulled out the tongue to get down my throat? My mouth doesn't open fully so I guess it was difficult. I was given an appt at 10 am and had to wait around till 3 pm before going to theatre I was last on the list. Why I had to go early I don't know. Read a really good book while waiting.
