Completed sandwich therapy

I have completed my chemo,28 external radiation treatments,3 internal radiation treatments and second round of chemo,CT scan 3 weeks after last chemo treatment showed new lymphnode involvement in the pelvis,a troubling area in the pelvis that looks different that 1st CT scan (which was negative)  and fluid in the pelvis.Will probably be starting chemo again with different drugs,should find out tomorrow. Has anyone achieved remission with the second line drugs when the recurrence was this fast?Very disappointed with results of all this 9 months of treatment!

    Dear Ann:

    Although I am unable to help you with your question, please know I am thinking of you and hoping you get the results you need!   By the way, what was your first line of chemo?  Usual first line of chemo is Carboplatin and Taxol.  Also, what was your diagnosis?   UPSC?  MMT?   Endometrial Adenocarcinoma?   I believe others on this cite have had success with second line drugs.   A

    You may also want to see if they tested you to see what chemo would work better for you.  I apologize, but I forgot what the terminology is for this.

    I have UPSC stage 3C,I was

    I have UPSC stage 3C,I was unable to take taxol so I got taxatere and carboplatin.My CT prior to surgery was negative and PET scan in August prior to radiation was negative so

    I was so confident that this scan would be negative after all the treatment. They did not test to see which chemo would work best on my cancer but used what is considered

    standard of care worldwide for my cancer.They met about me today so I should find out the new plan tomorrow,

    of course I was told they would call me this afternoon but didn't so I will be calling them first thing in the morning!

    When you say you are going to call you have to call!! 

    I am sorry you are going to have to go through more chemo.  I would be disappointed to hear this news, but somewhere in your message I hear your spirit.  Never give up and know that as the women read your words they are all saying a prayer for you.

    Sorry to hear your news that your front line chemo did not stop the cancer from growing.  It will be interesting to see what they recommend for you.  I am thinking it will probably be Doxil.  That is what several others have had after the taxol/Carbo.  I can understand your disappointment.  

    i too was diagnosed with UPSC 3-C, but luckily have responded to taxol/Carbo then Taxol/cisplatin each time.  I have never reached NED ( no evidence of disease).  Each time I go off chemo my CA 125 begins to rise. 

    i pray that your new line of chemo will help you.  May your body be strong for the new chemo.  In peace and caring.

    Tumor chemosensitivity assay

    Hi Ann - So sorry to hear that you did not respond positively to you treatment. I am sending positive thoughts and healing energy to you that your next chemo treatment works.

    I think the test that Kathy was thinking of is a tumor chemosensitvity assay - they take tumor cells and test the effectiveness of the chemotherapy they plan to use before you going through treatment to see if the tumor cells react positively to the chemo. I don't know much more about it but have seen others post about it working well and avoiding going through treatment that likely won't work. Perhaps you can ask you dr about it before starting a new round of treatment (I also don't know how long it takes to get the assay results so you might not want to wait before begininng new treatment).

    I will start doxil next week for 6 treatments but they will do another scan after 4 treatments and if it's not working they will take more cells and do an assay.They can't use the cells from before because they have probably mutated by now associated to chemo I've already had.Not looking forward to more chemo  but maybe I'll do better with the new drug.

    I can't tell you how my heart dropped for you when I read this thread. How terribly disapointing to finish tx and find a recuurence. Ugh. Cancer is such a beast!  All best wishes to you on the doxil. Please keep up posted.
