Unofficial scan results
Have had 2 sessions of ebitux and taxol (6 weeks) and had a CT scan this morning to see if it was working on my recurrence. The nurse told me I would not get results until Thursday but when I had the scan they told me the doctor would have in hand by lunch today. I waited til 2pm and called. The doctor had the written report for chest but not neck, however, he had viewed the actual scan. The tumor had decreased in size. He had hoped for more shrinkage but they normally don't scan for 9 weeks and Mayo asked them to do it at 6. I will have 3 more tx then another scan and he expects to see less of the tumor. What we were most concerned with was progression which he did not see, but again, the written report isn't in. I'm willing to hang my hat on what he sees for now. The report for chest saw a spot of inflamation, maybe an aspiration, that was in the written report as NOT suspicious for cancer.
Overall, pleased and hope the written report supports ONC's opinion.
Based on today, the plan is another session of chemo (3 weeks)since it appears to be working, then back to Mayo for 5 days of SBRT, which took care of last recurrence. Still hope for NED in the future. I've come a long was fron the original ONC, with the 1st recurrence, that said "here's some Zoloft, here's the phone number for the cancer psychiatrist and it's not necessary to make a follow-up appt. with me at this time". Never give up hope!
