O.T. Fell twice , yes twice this am in the snow...not as young as I used to be

I took one of my dogs out (no he din't pull me or knock me over-he is innocent ths time) & I fell in big pile of snow...(dresses for work of course) walk down slight hill (we had 18 inches snow yesterday) and slipped yet again and hit the black top driveway with HIP and back of head...I am not as young as I used to be..hehe

    Check out your shoes.  My

    Check out your shoes.  My sisters talked me into buying real Uggs this year, because I couldn't walk long in the fake ones.  When we had the frozen ice last week, Danny was sliding around in his Sperry topsiders and I was getting better traction.  I am not saying that Uggs are the answer as they are expensive, but google and see if you can find nonslip shoes for ice.  I do not want you to fall again, my friend!!!! :-(

    Denise,

    L. L. Beans (online) has a wonderful sneaker boots that I wear.  I use to walk back when I could 3-4 miles (even when the road was covered with snow) with them on and never fell.  I have worn this type of sneaker boots for over 25 years.  I have a pair of grippers also that you can buy in shoe stores that work.

    PS:  We had only 9 inches yesterday and I was so happy having that instead of 12".

    In 2010 when I was diagnosed stage 4 and having trouble with balance and falling, I bought black leather uggs, fully lined, great traction. 2011, I bought blue bear paws. good, but not as good as UGGS with traction, but both have the real shearing and do not need socks! (I cant put on socks or tie shoes). Went to Nordstroms rack the end of the season 2011, and found a pair of tan classic suede UGGS, 75% off!. I have worn those 3 pair of boots for he last 3 years, all still look new, great with the neuropathy, feet are warm, and have not fallen once...
    Last year I got a pair of ugg slippers that I can run outside in, same traction. Best birthday gift ever!
    I had my first uggs over 20 years ago. Wore them all winter in Calfornia. I wore them out!

    we only got 2-3... so far
    Luckily the mountains got more. New powder is great for all the ski resorts. I use to walk Billie my ADD boxer 4 miles every day and having good boots was great. I love shoes and boots, but was never good with heals. lol even when my balance was good!

    I want everyone safe and warm!  We finally got some rain here in California and more on tbe way.  But you folks with all the snow.......unbelievable.  Hope you're ok Denise.

    Like you, I live in NYS. 

    Like you, I live in NYS.  Between snow and the nasty-cold weather, with an occasional bit of warmth to melt the snow a little bit, it is easy to wipe out.  I did that the other week when we were bringing the kids in from recess.  I knew I was losing my traction on a slight upgrade.  I managed to land on my hands and knees, and not too hard.  The trick was popping up ASAP so everyone could know I was ok and laugh.  With slickness all around, even that can be a challenge.

    Anyhow, before I married my husband, I lived on the other side of town.  To minimize slipping for me and for my car, I could dip into the barrel of ashes from the coal my church burned (I lived next door).  One day, right after church, I safely made it home, changed my clothes, and went back out in my jeans and sneakers.  I figured the soles on those shoes would work well.  Ha!  I flung the pail of ash I had over the area behind my car.  As I came around, I wiped out -- there were people still leaving the parking lot next door after church.  That time I also popped up quickly.

    What did I find helpful for those quick dashes outdoors in the snow and ice?  Pulling a big pair of cotton socks up over my shoes.  Would you believe that I discovered, quite by accident, that there are companies that manufacture car socks that help gets cars short-term traction -- something to be used instead of chains?  I think they are more popular in Europe.

    We got less snow here than anticipated yesterday -- maybe about 10".  We used our last snow day yesterday.  Anymore, which could happen, since this is NY in early February, we will have taken from our February and April breaks.  Oh well . . .

    So funny you said that...I put on my daughter's fake uggs since my boots are crappy...she later said OH they stink.YOU NEED TO spend the $ on your self for REAL UGGS...

    i buy so much from

    i buy so much from LLBEAN..buy our camping stuff, kids back packs, coats, tent from here..

    THE pair of boots i do have from there are only about 5 inches High...we had about 12-18 inches..I am going to look into HIGH LL bean or uggs...

    I stayed on my feet all weekend in Vt (icefishing trip) I STAYED at resort with fire and pool/ hot tub with friend...no walking on ice for me..hehe
