Poor and sick.
Im 27. For the last month I've had multiple symptoms including bloating, cramping, lower back pain, dull achey lower back, my right side has a dull pain as well, constant urge to go, weird bowel changes, shortness of breath. I'm not sure if I have an apetite or not but I've never had much of one. For the last year or so Ive been dealing with what my doctor told me was ovarian cyst pain and that it would go away. Most was pain and dull aches before and after periods, heavy flow as well. I had a lot of torsion which I believed to be the cyst growing, of course my doctor said sometimes they grow but it would go away on its on. It grew reletively fast, but I guess a year is enough time to let it. Im at a stand still now, I know I need to seek medical attention, I know I need to get myself checked out. I have no money to my name, not a cent in my bank, what little I get from my paycheck goes towards rent and bills, I hardly make enough to buy food. How can I afford doctors visits with no health insurance, no money, no nothing? Am I to die because I cant afford the help? Im in tears with the very thought. A friend quoted how much it cost for a biopsy and I almost started crying right then. My family wouldn't cover the costs, they wouldnt pay or help pay for the surgery. I don't know what to do. I cant afford to save myself.

Hello Lachelle
Sorry about the health problems you're going through.
There is no reason for you to assume that you have ovarian cancer or any other cancer. Gastro-intestinal symptoms you're describing could be attributed to a number of benign conditions, not necessarily caused by the ovarian cyst. But you definitely need to see a doctor to get your symptoms checked out, diagnozed and to start treatment.
No one has to die or suffer because of no insurance. You didn't mention where you're located. But chances are you're in the United States, because the rest of the civilized world has some kind of government-funded healthcare.
From what I understand as of January 2014 according to the Affordable Care Act, Americans making less than $45,960 as individual or $94,200 as a family of 4 may be eligible for free or low-cost health insurance due to cost assistance subsidies like Tax Credits that reduce premium costs and cost sharing subsidies that lower cost sharing on copays, coinsurance and deductibles. If you can barely afford rent and food you're definitely eligible. Look into it. You can only get cost assistance through your State's Health Insurance Marketplace. Sorry, I don't know the specifics, because I'm in Canada.
Good luck to you!

Don't panic!
Lachelle, I am sorry you have having so many symptoms with the added distress of finances. But Alexandra is right...do not assume you have cancer. You do need medical evaluation and treatment. Yes, you need to sign up for Obamacare if eligible.
My suggestion is that you call you local health department and inquire about women's health services. Most states fund free/low cost clinics for women...used to be focused on birth control and STD prevention, but now the services are more comprehensive incorporating all aspects of women's health. You should be able to get a good evaluation and referral to an appropriate specialist if needed. These clinics almost always have information/referral/applications for funds to pay for any specialists, tests, treatment, etc.
I know it is scary to feel sick and alone. Your resources may seem non-existent. But there is help out there. And only you can seek it out. Posting on this discussion board was a start. You will get lots of good advice. Don't let your fear hold you captive.

I am so sorry you are suffering and scared but please know that you are not alone. I agree with the other two ladies who responded to you. Assuming you live in the US, I hope you have a Planned Parenthood near you. They will assist you with signing up for the Affordable Care Act and help you with finding health care services, such as doctor and hospital to get properly tested (vaginal ultrasound, CT scan, blood test, etc.) and help you find appropriate ways to pay for the costs. Please don't wait. We are here for you!
Best wishes,
Kelly

Hi Lachelle
I am so sorry to hear all that you are going through. I know the feeling well about being worried. I am out of remission and having chemo again. I do worry but problem is worry sure doesn't help me, all it does is give me anxiety and from anxiety I go through a panic attack. No Fun! So I am turning my worries over and enjoying each day.
I can also relate to your financial problems. I spoke with my doctor and the hospital where I get my chemo. I filled out a Charity Care application that they provided and I only pay 10% of what Medicare does not cover. I realize that you are not old enough for medicare but you might want to check to see if this option is available to you through the hospital and doctor. I wish you luck.
You will be in my prayers.
