Pre-surgery lab

in Kidney Cancer #1

I go in tomorrow for my pre-surgery lab.  It is finally sinking in and feeling real.  I go for surgery next Wednesday for them to remove however much they need to take of my right kidney.  I have searched countless sites on the web for information & have gotten a wealth of information from you.  I feel as ready as I am going to get and I THANK YOU ALL for sharing your first hand knowledge, it has made me feel as though this is just a bump in the road and something I can get through.  You all are a blessing!

    Surgery!

    Hi Toni, This waiting period has at least given you time to acclimatize a little. You sound ready! you will do just great, just remember to keep hydrated before you go in. Also have some laxatives like prune juice or senna at the ready just in case, but you know the drill!

    Bump in the road

    Hi Toni,

    I have always thought of my own situation as a bump in the road. December 2nd I had my kidney out and in a week I am returning to work already! There have been so many success stories here - and some of them are fighting stories.

    You tell Stewart good bye and he is not welcome any more! The first few days will be really uncomfortable, but you will get through that. You will be so relieved to have it over wth.

    Go get it Toni...

    The wait is the hard part. Next is dealing with the recovery which lately has not been too bad for many. Pain and soreness will be manageable. There becomes a third part. It is my observation that after a few weeks or so there becomes a sort of "post pardom"(sp?) depression. I think many of us experienced it. I'm not sure what it is but it may be something about accepting the label of being a full fledged cancer patient. Or the let down of knowing that your life has changed forever. Not sure. I'm going to raise this question in a new post. In any event, Go Get It Toni! Good luck.

    Hi Toni...  You have the knowledge, but not much we can say to reduce the upcoming stress... ya just gotta do it..!!  Once they put you to sleep.. THEY do all the work...  Hopefully you will (like I did) want to jump up and scream Huzzah...!!!  When you wake up, knowing that little bugger is gone..!!  Take the drugs, heal up..  Then let us know all is good..!!

    Toni, you'll do great!  Just remember not to try to " be brave" about pain.  Take your pain meds every time they are due for the first day or so, and stay ahead of the pain!  I guarantee that you won't be able to run fast enough to catch up if you get behind. LOL. The mag citrate doesn't taste bad at all and it W.O.R.K.S. Faaaaaasssssssssssssssssttttttttttttt! Whoosh! Laughing  Tell Stewart Buh-bye and good riddance.  We'll all be here waiting to help you in any way we can, get through the recovery part of this.  You can do it!

    Toni , you are strong . I can tell .

    Stewart does not know who he is dealing with .You will kick the little chump to the curb and continue on your way as though he never existed . We will all gather here soon and celebrate his demise . Stewart hears the clock ticking and he quakes in fear for he knows his time is not long . The day soon approches when he will be a thing of the past .

    I am ready, just wish it was today! Had my lab & EKG done and nurse who was taking history said on hospital forms it read renal carcinoma. Hmmm, doc just told me 85% sure, not too sure what to think. Either way though Stew is going to be gone!

    Tonib they cant tell you for sure if it is cancer until the pathologist tests the tumor. THey may know how it looks and the statistic of percent of it being cancer but not till its tested can they tell you for sure.

    Toni,

     

    So what if its Cancer. You are going to kick the Cancer in its a.. and get rid of it. Most of us like myself are in the 85% where the Cancer was in fact confirmed. That was 11 and 1/2 years ago. NBD (no big deal). It is a big deal when you first here the C word, but that was last year wasn't it?

    Expect it to be Cancer and be pleasantly surprised if it isn't. NBD. Stewart was like a little mouse and got squished in the process. Or was that Stuart?

    Surgery!

    All the best for tomorrow Toni! It will soon be over now, and Stew will be completely Stewed, and a thing of the past. I will be thinking of you:)
