False teeth
For you guys that had to have all of your teeth removed, how long after treatment ended were you able to get dentures?
Thanks and God bless,
Jamie

I already had dentures when I
started treatment, but was in dire need of new ones which I knew I couldn't get while in treatment. I finished treatment the end of August, and had new dentures by Dec. 1st. I did it too soon, as there was still some swelling that I didn't realize at the time. Of course, all they need is a reline, and that's no big deal....it's just that over the course of 4 or 5 months, they got looser, and I have to use goop to keep them in tight (another...no big deal).
Give it a couple of months, then let the dentist take a peek at your mouth....he will know more about exactly how swollen your gums still are.....

hello Jamie !
I had all my teeth extracted an hr. before resect....the tumor was butted up by my right jaw line. I waited three months. But as P mentioned we have quite a bit of swelling from tx's. My teeth fit well for the first 6 months and now are loose. I use the sea bond pads....I hate the other paste. I would ask your dentist if they have experience with this, mine didn't. Good luck ! Katie

I lost
1/4 of my teeth when they removed the tumor and 1/4 of my jaw. I got a partial for my false teeth but they fit funny since I have no jaw for it to rest upon. I was able to start the process of having them made one month after rads but it took me until just now to get them. I'm 6 months post tx.

one year
Jim's radiation oncologist recommended all teeth be removed prior to radiation (we did start chemo) and then it was a year before she felt it was time for dentures.
It was the right recommendation for Jim. Our insurance covered about half of the $4K cost.
