advice asap
NEED SOME ADVICE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, SO I WENT AND HAD VATS FOR A LUNG NODULE ON DEC 10TH, BEFORE SURGERY THEY DID A COILAZION ( A SMALL CT GUILDED COIL TO MARK THIS 8.7MM NODULE) AFTER THAT I HAD VATS , THEY SAID IT ALL LOOKED BENIGH. IN FACT THE PATH REPORT CONFIRMED THAT IT WAS BENIGH, SO I ASK THE NURSE TO HAVE THE DR CALL ME TODAY, BECAUSE I HAD QUESTIONS ON EXACTLY WHAT THIS NODULE WAS BECAUSE WHEN I SPOKE WITH THE DR IN THE HOSPITAL HE SAID THERE WAS SOMETHING GROWING UNDER THE NODULE SO JUST WANTED TO COMFIRM WHAT THAT WAS ALL ABOUT. HE HAD STATED ALSO IN THE HOSPITAL THAT HE TOOK A MUCH LARGER CHUNK OF THE LUNG BECAUSE OF THIS EXTRA FINDING , HE WAS PUZZELED. SO I WAS ALL HAPPY YESTERDAY WHEN THE NURSE EXPLAINED HOW THE PATH REPORT WAS BENIGH , IN FACT I THOUGHT OF THE DR TELLING ME IN THE HOSPITAL HE WAS 95% IT WAS BENIGH. SO HERE IS THE PROBLEM ,WHEN THE DR CALLED ME THIS EVENING AS I HAD REQUESTED , MY QUESTION WAS OF COURSE WHAT WAS IT ? NO BRAINER YOU WOULD THINK , HE GOES ON TO TELL ME THAT IT ALL CAME BACK NORMAL TISSUE WITH A SWOLLEN LYMPH NODE BUT HE WAS PUZZELED AS TO WHY THERE WAS NO OTHER FINDING , HE STATED THAT WHEN HIS TEAM FIRSTED CHECKED THE CHUNK HE REMOVED IT WAS ALL CLEAR , HE WENT AND TOOK A WIDER CHUNK JUST TO MAKE SURE( NO MENTION OF SOMETHING UNDER THIS NODULE LIKE HE HAD SAID IN THE HOSPITAL) IN ANY CASE HE REMOVED THE COIL THING THAT WAS FOR ALL INTENTS AND PURPOSES THERE TO MARK THIS NODULE,SO HE PROCEEDS TO TELL ME WE CAN SCAN IN A FEW MTS TO SEE IF THEY REALLY DID GET THIS NODULE AND IF NOT THEN WE COULD JUST HAVE A REDO! I TOLD HIM THIS WAS THE REASON I HAD SURGERY SO AS NOT TO DO THE SCANS , HE SAID HE 90% SURE HE GOT IT ( HE WAS AS I MENTION IN THE BEGINING IN THE HOSPITAL 95% SURE IT WAS OK) SO SEEMS LKE A LITTLE LESS SURE NOW BUT HE DID SAY THR RAD DR WHO PLACED THE CT GUILDED COIL WAS 99 % POSITIVE THAT HE GOT IT. SO THIS SUCKS WHAT DO I DO? I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS WHEN I SET DOWN WITH HIM ON JAN 3RD, OF COURSE I WOULD BE STUPID NOT TO HAVE A SCAN TO SEE IT THIS NODULE IS GONE OR STILL THERE, BUT WONDER IF THIS COIL MAY HAVE DISLODGED WHO KNOWS? ALSO I HVE THE PET/CT SCAN THAT SHOWS IT'S LOCATION CAN THEY COMPARE IT WITH THE SURGERY ONE AND SEE IF IT FACT THEY GOT THE RIGHT AREA? ANY WAY I AM HOPING THAT EVERYTHING IS OK BUT WHO THE HELL KNOWS IF THE DR DOES NOT,HE IS E-MAILING ME THE PATH REPORT TOMOROW, DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THIS COULD JUST BE NORMAL AND THE PATH REPORT IS CORRECT, I WOULD THINK THE DR SHOULD HAVE MORE CONFIDENCE IN THE REPORT AND WHO PAYS THIS TIME I AM SURE MY INSURANCE WILL NOT BE HAPPY/ ANY ADVICE OR EXPERENCES WOULD HELP - JUST PISSED

Scans to measure
They will need to compare the current CT with next one partly because the mass is very small even with the coil.. Only about 5% of these enlarged nodules are cancerous. So it is easy to be 95% certain. Until tthey see the scarring in relation to the nodule they cannot be certain. It all comes down to how the first doctor did placing the coil.
Did I answer your question completely? If not please restate it.

The way the doctor is talking now would worry me somewhat too. Write down all of your questions so you can be prepared when you go to see him. You said he only took out part of your lung? I thought with VATS, they would take the whole lobe. That's what they were going to do with me for the VATS. I wish you the best and keep us posted!

I callled the nurse yesterday to have a copy of the path report faxed to me, As I read the report it stated what they took out of me the wedge section it said it was smooth with no sign of nodule, so they took anougher small wedge for extra messure. So as I am reading this path report it then speaks of it being sent to the lab, the first wedge is said to be smooth and contained the coil that was placed to mark the nodule, but no sign of nodule so then it was messured and placed in a chem bath , it gos on to report that upon closer examination just below the surface there was a small red and purple nodule that was aprox 8mm.( THAT HAS TO BE THE SAME NODULE THEY WERE GOING IN AFTER) SO THEN THE REPORT GOES ON TO MENTION THE OTHER SAMPLE AND HOW IT WAS EXAMINED. any way no cancer was said to be found in either sample, but the confusion s when it gives the final conclusions it only mentions a 4 mm lynph node and the other sample but no mention of the .8mm nodule or what it really was. So today I had to go to my reg dr and I took the path report with me and she said it was very confusing to her as well so she is going to talk with the dr. She said diff no cancer and I am really happy about that but still have questions for the spec dr who did the surgery. I will see him on the 3th of Jan. Just donot think he read the full report , but even if so it is confusing. So thanks for letting me vent ,I am just so happy I am keeping a copy of every thing so I can read info for my self.I think we all should keep copys of our labs ,reports anyway I feel better if I do . Thanks again HUGS!!!
