Hello all:

I've been at this since 2008.  I am considering a move to Scottsdale, AZ.  I have noted a Mayo Clinic there but I was interested in anyones personal experience with Cancer care in the Phoenix, Scottsdale area.

I will continue with Xeloda/Avastin and likely be considering future surgeries.  Any advice or personal experiences will be helpful.

Mike

    MD Anderson

My husband was treated at Banner MD Anderson located in Gilbert, about 20 miles SE of Scottsdale. There is also Cancer Centers Of America located on the opposite side of the valley in Goodyear, but I know nothing about it. Also, check with Thxmiker. He was treated in north Scottsdale which may be Virginia C Piper.

    HI!

    I got treated at Shea

    HI!

I got treated at Shea Medical in Scottsdale.  A+ for surgery, hospital care, and total care!   The Mayo in Scottsdale does not accept all insurance plans.  We have Aetna PPO, which most doctors use.  Most people when they check us in, have the look in their eyes of Cha Ching!   We got refered by a Doctor at the Mayo to Shea.   Shea also is a Colon Cancer Center speciality.  They had an entire floor of the hospital for Colo Cancer surgeries.

Banner in Phoenix was a nightmare compared to Shea!  Seriously, I had the lead surgeon at Banner and did not get a great surgery. Luckily he was afraid of me and only opened me up, to close me.  He removed a tumor at the surgical site and then left me alone.  The surgical notes were poor, the pitcures were non exsistent, the medical records were poor to non exsistent. I would not allow them to surgery on my dog, less me!   This was the lead surgeon!!!!  His bed side manner was horible, the hospital did not want to have single rooms. (Even though we paid for it! We did get a single rom, because my complained that I have C.Diff.  If you do not know that one, tell the hospital that you have C. Diff. and you will get a single room.)   By the way, I never endorsed that one tell the hospital they have C. Diff.   lol

New Hope Unlimited is also in Phoenix and may be considered.   They have a one cost plan.  It is $25K and no other expenses for your cancer treatment over multiple years. Not a bad deal at all!

    Best Always,  mike

    Finished Folfox at Mayo Scottsdale

    Mike,

i transferred to Mayo AZ in 2011. The nurses were wonderful.  The facility is smaller than Mayo Mn so more personalized care.  The Nursing Practioner helped personalize my care calling in prescriptions when home on chemo pump and needed a antibiotic for a sinus infection. She helped set up a home nurse so I did not have to drive back to disconnect the pump.

    Best to you.

    Prayers,

    NB
