cyst or kidney cancer?

i've been having pain in my lower back so went for MRI. the back pain is when i sit for a spell.  it doesn't hurt for me to walk.  the mri showed I have a 1.3 cm spot on my kidney.  below is what the report said about it.  did any of you hear this when you were dx and was lower back pain a symptom?  what symptom(s) did u have that made u go to doctor?

   In the superior pole the right kidney, there is a 1.3 cm T2 hyperintense lesion.  The lesion is mildly hyperintene on T1-weighted images and therefore is NOT clearly a cyst.

I'm sorry to bother you with this but I've had H&N cancer (NED for 1.5 yrs now) and so whenever something pops up my first thot is always cancer.  I would greatly appreciate any feedback you can provide.  Thank you and God bless you.

    Back pain

    Back pain can be a symtom of Kidney Cancer as well as a 1000 other things. The 1.3 cm lesion should be followed up with a CT or a very limited watch and wait. While some kidney tumors are that small it is still very small and those which are Kidney Cancer at that size are as close to 100% curable from surgery alone as you can get.

    Again without further testing it is a little too early to assume that it is Kidney Cancer.

     

    Lets hope it is not Kidney Cancer and if it is we can get rid of that little sucker when the time comes.

    thank you so much for your quick reply.  it actually made me feel better.  my doc is scheduling an ultrasound on monday.  funny how when something comes up precancer we don't read too much into it but once we've had cancer, cancer is always the first thing that comes to mind.  thank you again, i greatly appreciate it!

    Hi DJ..!  OK it may or may not be Cancer as Ice Guy stated.  An Ultrasound may not be definitive to give you an answer.. next step is more scan(s) with contrast if possible.  That should tell the tale..  But hope it is nothing... either way, that small a tumor "even if" it is Cancer should be (not 100% but darn close) caught plenty early to never be an issue again..
