Home from the Hospital
Hi Friends,
**** made it home from the hospital on Monday after 18 days in the hospital. I have to say, it was a very tough 18 days on him. He has lost a lot of weight and is going to focus on getting his healthy body back (yes, he knows he has metastasized cancer). Today,Thursday, he had chemo. He just had the folfox as they are holding the Avastin for a few weeks because of surgery. He is eagerly waiting for an Ok to get back in the ocean. We think the doc will want him to wait at least another week since he had surgery 2 weeks ago.
Our daughter comes home for Thanksgiving on Wednesday. On Wednesday evening the neighborhood has an imu for cooking turkeys. An imu is an underground oven. One of our neighbors has one dug in his backyard and it can fit around 30 turkeys in it. It takes many hours to prepare the imu and there are a number of different steps. From about 6pm - 10pm the neighbors gather and bring the turkeys. Everyone brings a pupu (horderve) and drinks and sit around until it is time to put the turkeys in. Then all the turkeys go in and our covered with tea leaves and then dirt. The smell is incredible reaches many blocks. On Thanksgiving morning around 9am everyone goes and picks up their turkeys.
I share that because when things were so dark for us in the hospital all we could think about was more time with family and friends. It's all we want. I am so grateful that we will get more time.
Thinking of all of you.
Aloha,
Kathleen

oh congrats you two on getting home. I am so pleased that **** will be home and resting eating and healing on the holiday.
thank you Kath for your turkey description. I have never heard of that and I loved every single second your description. Sometimes I think in order to find joy in cancer life....we have to focus on the tiny simple pleasures of living.
sending your family greatest love with snowflakes attached.....

Glad he is home. You must
Glad he is home. You must be mentally and physically exhausted. I hope he's enjoying the ocean very soon.
The turkey cooking sounds so cool. Our son's boy scout troop does something similar, but they cook them in metal trash cans (only used for this purpose...I hope!!) They have a big family feast this weekend, with everything cooked outside.

Dearest Kathleen ...
I have just recently come back to the board after my husband's passing almost six months ago. As I try to catch up on messages to see where everyone is in their lives ... well, my heart goes out to you and your husband ****.
May your holiday together be filled with peaceful feelings and warm love. ~ Cynthia

Wonderful
So glad that he is home and recovering there. My daughter lived on that island you are on as well (while in the military) and told me about the great events going on. I'm hoping that you can both make it to that, but more importantly that he gets well. Just wanting to let you know that he is my prayers.

Mahalo (thank you)
Hello my dear friends,
It is always sweeter when you celebrate the good stuff with us. Thank you for your warmth and love. **** can't get in the ocean yet but I got away for 1.5 hours on my stand-up-paddle board today. It was fabulous to just be on the water. Grateful for so much. Trying to keep my mind in that thankful place.
Aloha,
Kathleen
