Go my port out today!

I haven't been here in a while but wanted to share my news with all the wonderful people here.  After having finished chemo in September of last year, having a clear colonoscopy, clear blood tests, and another clear CAT scan...I decided t get my port out.  I decided to get it removed in the hospital surgical center with local anesthetic instead of general.  It took about a half hour.  It has been six hours since the removal and now I am feeling the pain.  Not that bad though.  I'll take Tylenol.

I also started back to work again two months ago.  Unfortunately, I have to travel every week to another state as I had been doing prior to cancer treatments but I am holding up.  It is the nature of my job but I can LIVE with it!

I lurk here now and then and think about you all often.  My love and prayers are with you all.

Deena

I'm done with chemo Wednesday Nov 20. Congrats to you! I hope to follow in your footsteps. Do you recommend waiting a year? Not sure what to do, thanks for any advice.

A lot of people want their posts out right away.  I may be a little superstitius but I wanted to make sure I had a year's worth of cancer free blood tests and CATS scans. I also had a clear colonoscopy back in July.  I had my port flushed every three months.  It's really one's choice but that I feel good that I waited.

Eastflip...I am so happy you are nearing the end of your chemo treatments!!!  Congrats!!!

    Get that thing gone

My Oncologist wanted mine out the minute I'd had my first clear scan. He was worried about clots and infections.

I didn't mind either way to be honest, but now its out, I'm quite happy.

    True

I was a little worried about the clot thing too.  Glad it is gone!

    Thanks Deena!

My brother is a fighter. I'm not counting him out, yet! He beat NHL in 2000, I am going to keep positive that he is going to be one of those people who can beat the odds. Thanks!

    Congrats!  I got mine taken

Congrats!  I got mine taken out 4 months after my chemo and after two good scans.  I have a scar there but it's better to look at then that nasty port.  So happy for you!
