I hate hospitals
Went there to see my brother and he looked better. The doctor who was there said his platelets were low. They dropped since he was admitted. They sent in a hematologist who said that they wuold do a scan of his body to check for bleeding. As of 8pm tonight, no scan. I put in a call and spoke to his nurse on duty and he told me to call him back in an hour, he would look into it. I feel like I'm dealing with a bunch of morons. The left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. Seriously, do I have to sleep there and demand that these things get done? I put in a call to his socail worker, no call back. I am frustrated beyond belief. Am I being unreasonable? if there's internal bleeding, I'd think they'd want the scan done asap.

No scans done.
There is going to be 2 very angry sisters there in the morning. I would be there now if it wasn't so far away.

I understand
You are so right to be frustrated and angry about the poor communications and treatment.
I would call the hospital administration and find out if they have a patient advocate section. Due to issues just like this some hospitals now have this type of group...guess they figure it might help stave off lawsuits.
If you can get a patient advocate, the that gives you a single source to call, question and prod rather than chasing nurses, doctors and lab tecs.
Sure hope that your brother improves soon and can once again get to a place where he is able to have some enjoyment.

Hospitals
Sorry you are going through this. I've even experienced similar problems and it is frustrating. I'm wishing that things get resolved for him and that you get some doctors that can give you some answers. If you don't like them, fire them and hire someone else.

Marie, great idea. I am going over there later with my family. I'll see if I can chase down a patient advocate because this is getting ridiculous. The nurse had no idea what was supposed to happen. He had to sit and read his chart and found nothing on it. I'll keep you up to date as soon as I know something. I feel so bad for my brother, he deserves better.

I took Marie's advice and got a patient advocate involved. We found out that the physicain assistant, after talking with my brother, decided that it was a mistake and erased the fact that he's intellectually disabled and needs the health care proxy. Can you imagine? My sister got there before me and had her change all the information back. We had the advocate talk to all the staff and he made sure it's right there on top of the file, in ink, to notify us of any changes. Let's see what happens now.
They did an xray and said everything looks good. The platelets are low because of the chemo and blood thinner he is on. He is supposed to move out of ICU tomorrow, so hopefully we can get him out of there soon.
Chemo is being put on hold till he gets out of there. Oncologisy needs to discuss where we go from here once he gets out. I guess he needs time to heal. Not too happy that he has to wait, but I guess it has to be done.
