    good news

Thanks for the good news. It's as important to post about good news as to ask about problems or ask for  advice.

Did you have any further treatments after your operation?

Sorry, I don't know about post operation insomnia as luckily my husband sleeps very well.

    all the best,

    danièle

    Sleeping

I was presribed ambien before and after surgery. That worked great until I had a bad reaction to the drug. Went to bed at 9:30PM and awoke at about 3AM restrained to a hospital bed. I cannot remember any of what happened but my wife has plenty of wild stories. Use caution if relying on a drug to put you to sleep. The best advice that I recieved was to not take naps during the daytime. I sleep good when I follow that advice. I just past the 3 years since diagnosis and am feeling great!Laughing

    Congrats!!

    Sharon,

Congratulations on staying free of cancer.  I love hearing about folks doing well.

I've no experience with insomnia as a result of anything related to cancer treatment, sorry I can't help with that.

    Hope you stay well,

    Ed

    Insomnia

Sharon, I don't usually post on this site anymore, but I just didn't want you to feel alone. I have suffered from insomnia since my surgery in February 2010. I usually take an Ambien on Saturday night to catch up on my sleep, but just forge on ahead through the week.

    Congrats on the good news!

    I’ve had sleep issues

    Sharon:

I’ve had sleep issues since my surgery, too.  Not sure if it’s officially insomnia, but I used to sleep like a baby through the night, but ever since my MIE I’ve not been able to sleep more than 3 or 4 hours a night.  I read in bed till 11:30 or so, turn out the light and go right to sleep, but I wake up again between 2:30 and 3:30 and can’t get back to sleep.  With my PCP’s blessing, I take half an ambien pretty much every night when I wake up, and that’s the only way I can get back to sleep.  Once a week, just to break the pattern, I take an over-the-counter Sleep Aid around 11:00, and sleep through the night.

    Sleep issues

    Hello Bob,

I have had insomnia for many years but it got worse after taking steroids with my last chemo regiment several years ago.

I take Ambeim some nights when I need 8 hours of sleep but for years I have taken Sonota when I only have 4 hours until I have to wake up.  I strongly recommend it for waking up at night to go back to sleep.

    Take care,

    Alan
