Help. I am signed up to cater my sons pre football game meal. I need to feed  about 60 hungry boys. I thought I would just have it catered  by the lodal barbeque place but it was going to be about $900.00 (13.95 per kid).  The coach likes the meal about 3 hours before the game so we are looking at about 11:30 A.m. this Friday. I don't know what to make. Any ideas will be appreciated. Love Surf

    Does this coach usually have

Does this coach usually have a 'feed' before games?  Sounds strange to me from back when my Sons played Pop Warner FB or school FB nothing like that was done.  There were a few times that I remember there would be a pot luck or cookout when they returned from a distant game or at the end of the season.  What sort of food does he (coach) want them to have?  If this is common practice, what have other parents done?   Will this 'feed' be inside with facilities/kitchen to use?  So many questions!

How could a coach expect any parent to foot the entire bill for feeding 60 FB players on their own?

I would make a big pot of

I would make a big pot of spaghetti (maybe meatballs) with garlic bread and salad. Everyone loves pasta and its inexpensive to make.

    Good Luck

    Suggestions...

Wow!  You're going to have a lot of hungry boys to feed, but you can do it!  I would suggest keeping it simple.  How about meatball sandwiches, pasta, or casserole dishes?  I like the first idea best.  You can make or buy the meatballs and keep them hot in a crock pot and buy french bread.  The sandwiches can be assembled there.

All the best with your meal!  Let us know how it went.

Pulled pork, baked beans, mac n cheese and corn bread!

Guys love pulled pork or beef brisket ( easy to grill). Have some BBQ sauces. The best is cole slaw, baked beans, mac n cheese, and corn bread! You could have texas toast available for guys wanting to build a sandwich? Can you tell I spent alot of time in Kansas City?

Whatever you choose will be yummy, Im sure.

    Lasagna

I would make lasagna. It's easy to make, cheap, and full of energy carbs for those boys. If you have a freezer, you can make and bake some each day then just warm them up on the last day. Throw in some bread and you are finished.

Susan it is odd to me as well

My older son played for a different coach and we didn't do anything for home games. If I can recall correctly we dontated money and someone bought subway sandwiches for the away games. So all of this is new to me. Love Surf

    Thank you for your suggestions.

I love the idea of lasagne but another mother had made it a few weeks before, last week someone made chicken and pasta. So I decided to make barbequed beef tri-tip($2.99 a pound) overnight in my oven, pulled pork (1.59 a pound)in my crock pot and every crockpot I can borrow from my neighbors, macaroni salad (for the carbs and also super cheap to make) and Kings hawaiian rolls. I went to Costco and have never bought so much meat  in my life I also bought barbeque sauce and mayo and got out of there paying $134.00 so not too bad. Wish me luck. Love Surf

    Ask for help :)

I would ask the other parents to help out and divide the menu up with entree's, vegetables, fruit, salad and desert between those that step in to provide.

    Friday afternoon game

    Hi Denise

Our coach likes the boys to eat about 3 hours before the game. I have to set this up in the room where they view the films of the games from the week prior. I suppose the coach thinks of it as a bonding exercise.  It is a home game for us and our football field is not lighted, so we have to play before it gets dark. I know what you mean when I signed up for this I thought it was just something like a snack  you would bring for an AYSO game not a full on meal. Next year I think I will be a bit wiser.  Oh well you live and learn. Love Surf
