Hi Mags,
Would they allow youHi Mags,
Would they allow you to take Miralax with Gatorade and Ducolax pills instead?? (The Gatorade keeps the electrolites up.)

Hi Cyn......no this is the only prep this surgeon allows. I have had one shot and it went down okay but gosh I feel soooo nauseated already and there are still two more doses to go.....just took a gravol.....not with his say but I just wanna get this done......

Yep
Can you mix it with some clear liquid? Perhaps flat ginger ale? Even water might help.
I had the same reaction to the citrus sodium prep I had to use. Nasty stuff.
Hugs.

thanks marie....since Cyn mentioned gatorade have been sipping that and it helps for a few minutes. Haven't tried ginger ale.....there is something very calming about that drink....I think cuz when you were a kid your mom would give it to you. Anyway DH is out for the afternoon...I will send him for some as soon as he comes in......
thanks Marie....I am glad you had a reaction too......I mean I am not glad you did just glad to know it is hard to stomach....thanks againd

Ginger is good for nausea and vomiting. Normally would recommend ginger snaps or ginger candy...but clear liquids are for before a scan.
Try to remove the "fizz" from the ginger ale before using either by stiring or adding a little water...no point in adding bubbles to the mix!

SuPrep
The only one that does not cause vomiting for me is SuPrep. All the others, yikes.
Maybe just take slower, over a longer time period. I would lt your dr know.

1. Have the yucky liquid
1. Have the yucky liquid prepared in one cup. Have other cup with Gatorade, or even water.
Have at hand a washcloth/ towel, a little wet/ humidified with water.
2. Hold your nose with your fingers, drink slowly a bit of yucky stuff.
Breath from your mouth, *still pinching your nose*.
3. Drink a little Gatorade/ water, *still holding your nose*, rinsing a bit your mouth with it, while drinking.
4. Breath through your mouth, *still pinching your nose*, and clean your lips and all around your mouth with the wet towel. Breath again through your mouth.
5. Just release your nose and breath normally.
Repeat 1 to 5; use all the time you need to get down the nasty stuff. You should taste very little to nothing.
Sorry about the bad English.
(Anyone who is not doing the preparation now, can try this with any beverage, so you can see how you can't taste almost anything)

G'day mags
I go into hospital on 12 Nov. They don't let me do my prep at home any more. Last time I had eight litres of the stuff with an occasional Zofran wafer under the tongue to keep it down. They Postponed my scheduled scope in october because of parainfluenza. I'm still not breathing well but this scope is the first in three years and iI don't want to go any longer. I will go in on a tuesday for the prep ,have the scope on wed and they will keep me in for observation till thursday. Good luck with yours,Hugs ron.

Don't have any more tips to add but just wanted
to wish you good luck, Mags! That prep stuff is just awful, isn't it?
Definitely more of a trick than a treat for Halloween.
And Ron...good luck on your hospital visit. Hope it goes well.

yup the prep is nasty......I just got no. 2 down......then at 5 am tomorrow I will hopefully get 3 to stay down and we'll be off to the races.
I was talking to a nurse this afternoon from the hospital where the procedure will be done. She said go ahead and take gravol about an hour before each dose of Pico.......the surgeon is also having us take a pill of Gas X or simethicone with each dose of salts.....this is new for me......never have used simethicone for colonoscopy......
Wet rainy windy here.......have treats for 150 kids for trick or treating and so far we have had about 10 kids.....oh dear....little bags of chips on the my menu for tomorrow
thanks again.....mags

Oh Mags
poor girl!! Suck on a lemon, they suggestd it for me and only thing that helped besides using a straw so I could keep it as far away from my taste buds as possiblr. Just don't suck down a seed or the pulp, but sucking on lemon is acceptable. Sorry I'm chiming in so late.

Awwww
Sorry you had such a problem with the prep before. I've never heard of that prep as I've always done the miralax and docolax prep. The prep is always more worse than the procedure itself. I'm wishing you the best for a good prep night and clean results tomorrow.
Hugs! Kim

Update on the procedure?
I'm sure it's fine but just wanted to hear it from you!

hello Kath....it went well. The scan was clean. the small hospital where we chose to go was a delight. Old fashioned goodness....the nurses were attentive and the blankets came heated. As I approach 70 I find that these procedures take more and more out of me. I found the test and the prep quite hard. Mentally I have been more concerned but physically it gets tougher.
thank you to each and every one......hugs

Lemonade
Mags - Sounds like you got some good advice. Sorry I'm late to the thread but it might help others. I usually drink a gallon of prep, the brand differs depending on what my HMO wants to use. They say to keep the prep cold as it's easier to shallow. Note to Oxaliplatin users-don't refigerate! Anyway, I also make up some lemonade and take a large swallow of prep, followed by a sip of lemonade. I can only get about 1/2 to 3/4 down before I'm so bloated I have to stop. Never thought about GasEx, might help that. Anyway, a couple of hours later I try to finish up the prep.
