Ultrasound Results
I recently had a renal ultrasound and it found that I have a complex multiobulated 5.2 cm lesion within the upper pole of the left kidney that contains septation which demonstrates vascular flow on color doppler imaging. Also additional 1.9 cm lesion within the lower pole of the right kidney with mural nodule or calcification. I don't know what any of this means. Should I be concerned?

Yes.
What were you doing that inspired the Ultrasound? What kind of specialist did you do it under? What are they recommending? What did they tell you it means?

Concern
Scoley,
You should be concerned enough to get an opinion from the radiologist or urologist whether either of these could be Kidney Cancer. If so they will follow up with a CT scan which should give a more definitive answer. Lesions can be benign. Even if they do turn out to be Kidney Cancer they are still small enough for a good recovery. Lets hope they are not both Kidney Cancer as that would invove 2 surgeries. Make sure the CT is done ASAP if there is any chance of Kidnety cancer so that it can be addressed early.

I'm parapalegic, and it was an ultrasound to see why I have chronic UTI's. This was just performed last Monday, but the facility where I go has an app, that allows patients to view appointments, test results, history, etc. That's where I read them. Looks like it shows a recomendation of more definitive characterization with renal protocol CT or MRI. I don't have my follow up until the 28th. I'm a little scared at this point.

I really appreciate the replies. I'm trying to remain calm, but it's pretty scary for me. I don't know what to expect during a CT or MRI, and I'm not sure what questions I should be asking.

scoley,
Neither the the CT or MRI are painful procedures. The CT should be with and ithout contrast and they should give you a BUN and greatine bloodtest to make sure that you do not have an adverse reaction to the die. You get to drink 1 or2 bottles of goup and to throw then off you coukd tell them how good it was and could you have an extra bottle.
Let's hope it is not Kidney Cancer, but if it is, it is smakk enough to sucsessflly deal with.
Mine was over 11 years ago and I abd nost of the members here have been living without a second or part f a second kidnry since our surgery

Call and ask for a ct scan
Call and ask for a ct scan ASAP. Then ask for results ASAP as well. I will keep my fingers crossed that it is not cancer. If it is cancer and is contained to the kidney, your prognosisimis good.
