Anyone familiar with Dr Nancy Kemeny?

in Colorectal Cancer #1

She invented the Hapatic Artery Infusion therepy. She is located at Sloan Kettering memorial hospital? I was wondering if anyone checked it out or had the procedure done?

    There are a few on this board who use her

    I've heard wonderful things about her.  She has a superb reputation, although I understand her "bedside manner" might not be the best.  She's all business, and supposedly superb at what she does.  I go to Sloan - Dr. Paty is my surgeon.  I don't currently have an onc, as I'm in remission, and my onc left.  Dr. Paty is tracking me in the meantime.

    I've only heard excellent reports of her.  If you have the opportunity to meet with her, you should take it. 

    Pretty sure Phillieg is a patient of hers and hopefully he'll check in - if not, maybe you can send him a private message.

    You shoud check out colon club. There are quite a few on there who have been treated by her and have fantastic things to say.

    can you have the HAI therepy if your colon cancer is inoperable?

    Yes, on Colon Club,

    there is a thread that is called (I think) the 53rd St. Gang...people who to that facility, most of whom see this doctor.  Considered the tops in her field, from what I read.

    Hi Anna,

    I received a call from Dr. Kemenys office today after sending over my wifes scans and reports and files. She told me that the procedure is only done on paients with tumors only on the liver. Since my wife has a tumor in her colon that is inoperable and a couple small spots on her lungs she is probably not eligable for the procedure. She said the dr. will take a look at it and let me know for sure. It doesn't sound to promising for her. We are slowly running out of options.

    Have you gotten another opinion

    from a colorectal surgeon?  Why can't the colon tumor be removed?  I've seen people on the forums who have had basically the entire colon removed, so I do know they can take a lot out.  I'm not sure why they can't take a piecemeal approach to surgery, but they must have some reason.  Is it because they don't want her off chemo?  As it sounds like the chemo options haven't worked for her, it seems like trying a more radical surgical approach would make sense, but I'm no expert in this.

    If it was me, I would want that colon tumor out, even if they are worried about it popping up elsewhere.  That's going to cause a lot of pain as things progress, more so (from what I've read and seen with my own sister) than tumors in other organs.

    I'm feeling very frustrated for you both.

    That was my next line of thought. I have no idea why it is inoperable. They never told us why when she was diagnosed a year ago. I never even asked why. I can kick myself for not pushing for more answers. I just took there word for it. Not anymore though. Anyone know of a great colorectal surgeon who might be willing to take a chance? I did some reading on the mayo clinic in Rochester minn. They sound pretty good. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    I think I would post this on the Colon Club.

    There seems to be a pretty big group there who get their treatment in NY.  I have a feeling that they might have some recommendations.  I seem to remember reading of somone who found an awesome surgeon at Georgetown University (Washington DC), who was willing to operate when others wouldn't, butI don't know the name.  Maybe Dr. K will have some suggestions.
