Metastatic Malignant Melanoma

My daughter was diagnosed a year ago with malignant melanoma. At the time she was five months pregnant so she could not be treated till the birth of her baby. After her daughter was born we learned that the cancer had spread to her lymph nodes, pne adrenal gland and two tumors on her liver. She is 23 years old with two babies. So far they have taken out her adrenal gland and the lymph nodes. They attempted a liver ablation and a chemo embolization to eradicate the tumors on the liver but they failed. The doctors hesitantly performed a liver resection a few days ago. They seem to think they got both tumors off. She will be getting interferon treatments soon My question is what are the odds of it recurring? Is Melanoma curable? I am looking for anybody who is knowledgable in this area or has had a loved one with similar experience. we seem to get vague answers from the doctors. I can be emailed at jjohnson710@liberty.edu

    Melanoma

First, I would like to say how sorry I am to hear thay your daughter is having to go through this. I hope this note finds her well. I was diagnosed with Melanoma stage 3 in April 2009. I have had one reocurrance, and tha was in Jan 2013. I have had  surgeries to remove the lymphnodes, and currently doing a clinical study. You must maintain hope, and with your daughters age, she is young and can fight this. I had a 3 year old at the time of my dx, and was 38 years old. It seems like we are too young to have to deal with this beast called melanoma. I will be praying for your family. Also, yes it is possible for a reocurrance, but she must be vigilant and take care of herself, and make sure to get all the follow-ups that are required to monitor this disease. God Bless you and your family............Rhonda
