GREAT news today
Went to the doctor today and got my lab results. It was 8 weeks since my last marker was drawn. It went from 718.2 to 721. That is the least amount of increase I have ever had in 8 weeks. Who else do you know that would e celebrating a CA-125 of 721!!!!!!!!
All other labs are good.
It is just a number, as my Florida doctor keeps telling me. I am feeling good and have no symptoms. except that I have been having foot and leg cramps especially at night. Sometimes as many as 3-4 a night. That does not help sleep at all. I tried taking TUMS, but I see my calcium is already high, I added potassium, but my potassium is normal. The doctor recommended doing exercise before bedtime and drinking Powerade. So will try that. Anyone have any other suggestions. I even tried to bar of soap at the end of the bed!!!! I am desperate to get a good night's sleep.
We are getting ready to leave for Florida for the winter. We will leave October 11 to go to Florida. Then on October 15 we leave for our trip to Australia and New Zealand. I am really looking forward to the trip. So I will be off the discussion board for a while. I don't want my "sisters" worrying about me while I am gone. I hope everyone does well while I am gone. You all remain in my prayers. In peace and caring.

Stable is good. Congratulations Ro
There is a home remedy for leg cramps: unwrap a dry bar of soap and leave it under the bed sheets next to your feet. However silly it sounds, apparently it releases magnesium and helps lots of people. Definitely won't hurt you.
Have fun in Florida and a wonderful trip down under!

I tried the bar of soap, but no relief. As I said, I am desperate for a good night sleep. I did my exercise and drank my Poerade, so we will see what tonight brings! The doctor said the exercise would release the electrolytes and increase the circulation. Thanks for you suggestion.

The trip is for 25 days. Not looking forward to the 13 hour flight from SanFrancisco to Auckland New Zealand, then a 2 hour flight to Cairns Australia. But once we get there it will be wonderful..

So happy to hear the good news, Ro! And happy that you are happy and excited about your trip. Have lots of great adventures and let us know how it went when you get back!
I was always told to eat bananas for leg cramps, but that ties into the potassium issue which doesn't seem to be your problem...

Such good news, Ro. Yes, it seems odd celebrating a CA125 in the 700's but for you it works. Keep it up.
Have a wonderful trip!

Oh, about the leg cramps, have you tried quinine (tonic water)? I've heard it's helpful. Put a little gin or vodka in it . . . .

So Happy for you and so Jealous of your trip.
I am so glad to see your numbers and that you are healthy enough to go on your trip to New Zealand and Australia, mainly because of New Zealand. As a kid growing up I loved (and still do) koalas. Collected everything koalas and wanted to go to Australia. But when Lord of the Rings movies came out and it showed all the landscapes of New Zealand it became my new dream vacation spot. I am so jealous but happy that you get to have the trip. Enjoy! trish

I'm happy to hear your news. I'm so envious of your trip! Hope you have a fantastic time.
I'm happy to hear about your latest numbers and the moving back to Florida for the winter...and the Australian/New Zealand trip.... You are really living high and enjoying life.
As you said, IT'S ONLY A NUMBER!!!!! That's easier said then done, but keep the faith you'll continue on with good health...visualize this, too.
Ro, you're one strong lady, keep the armor on and never give up!!!! We're all here next to you rooting for you all the way.
Hugs

The bar of soap
I remember years ago seeing a little piece on TV where someone was holding in their hand some powder laundry detergent. The soap got warm and the person was told it was from the phosphorus and it was a little 'burn'. That is why I decided to shove a bar of soap in each sock I was wearing but I don't know if there is that much phosphorus in soad anymore.
ENJOY the trip! and CONGRATS!!! We celebrate this news with you.

Have a wonderful time on your trip, Ro. Stable results are definitely a cause to celebrate - what perfect timing to get such news just before your holiday. Australia and New Zealand are wonderful places - I visited them both in 2005 and had an amazing time. We went to Cairns and snorkelled on the Great Barrier Reef. I swam with dolphins in the wild in New Zealand. It was a fantastic trip. I hope it is for you, too.
We'll be here when you get back, waiting to hear all about it.
Kindest wishes and safe travels

My mom, who is 68 and has every ailment known to man, swears by Crampex tablets from England. There are some exercise suggestions and cramps prevention ideas on their website too. http://crampex.co.uk/
I don't know if you can buy Crampex OTC in USA, but they are sold from Amazon.com http://www.amazon.com/Crampex-Tablets-Muscle-Cramp-Night/dp/B001RYOQBC and reviews are excellent.

RO, Try Magnesium
First, congratulations on your "good news" and for feeling so well! So happy you can go on that trip!
As for the leg cramps, try either of the following:
A bath, an hour before bed, in a cup of Epsom Salts--high in magnesium. (You may add to the bath 3-4 drops of an essential oil such as Frankincense, for additional aroma and soothing.)
OR
Ingest 500 mgs of magnesium citrate with dinner.
I would frankly favor the bath because the magnesium gets into your system quickly through the skin, our largest organ.
Let me kow if this provides any relief!
Love,
Rosey

Isn't magnesium citrate what you take for a laxative? I remember taking it for one of my colon preps before a colonoscopy! I would think the pills would have a laxative effects, too. I will try the Epsom salt baths.
I hope you continue to do well.
