IRE instead of RFA

in Colorectal Cancer #1

I got my recurrent liver met treated with a new procedure called IRE instead of RFA

Seems they got the entire met and follow up mri shall be after a month 

In IRE they use alternating current instead of radio frequency as in rfa 

they don't offer this procedure in USa for liver mets or solid tumours as yet.

I got it done in Germany .

    That is what I thought it is

    That is what I thought it is judging by the description. If that's the case there are several hospitals in the US that are equiped for that proceedure.

    I had this done in February 2013

    Hello:

       I had a tumor on my liver done via this method at Memorial Sloan Kettering (by Dr. Steve Solomon) in February 2013.   IRE stands for Irreversible Electroporation (nanoknife)...and while still fairly new is showing great promise....and is currently used in a few places in the U.S.

    Did the location have to be

    Did the location have to be in a place where other proceedures weren't possible to qualify. I am asking because I have a tiny spot on the surface of my liver and am considering nanoknife rather than have a 4th resection but it can easily be removed via resection or RFA.

    I don't know that the

    I don't know that the location of my tumor (it was close to a vessel which means that it couldn't easily be resected and even a rfa would be less effective as the blood in the vesel would cause cooling during the rfa) was required in order to use this procedure...but obviously it was the best option in my case.  Dr. Solomon said that there have only been about 1,000 of these procedures worldwide and that he has done 200 of them at Memorial Sloan Kettering.

    Thanks for the info. I have been following nanoknife for about a year near. It is something I will keep in my back pocket in case I ever need it.

    After the nano knife / IRE

    Well the doctor says that it was actually 4 cm when I was on the table - took them 4 plus hours to electroporate it - and seven small holes - have mild fever in the evening - doc said it will go away - did the IRE In Germany and now am back to india - took me a total of 7 days from india back to india 

     

    Now they say I should get a MRI done after a month and not a PET as the PET may give a false positive - my CRP levels kept on rising but docs say that is normal and will decrease after sometime - if anyone has got the IRe done and can provide some clarity on what I should do further - that would be most helpful
