Response from EWTN...Not good

I got the following response from Ewtn. So, she meant to say that "the wages of sin" is death by anal cancer for homosexuals only! I am disgusted beyond belief that a woman who cloaks herself in my religion would get on the air waves and be so ignorant of the facts and hateful towards cancer patients. She needs to be corrected and an apology given. I also resent the inference that it must be my inability to understand English in context that is the problem. I have been blessed with a great education! I know perfectly well what she said and it was horrible!

She gives no apology, no correction of misinformation.

Dear Mary,
I am certain the context of what you heard had to do with the relationship between anal cancer and homosexual behavior. While I don't know what program of ours you heard, I can assure you that this is the only context in which we have ever discussed anal cancer. We said nothing that would lead a viewer think that our comments referred to all cases of anal cancer.
Blessings,
Johnnette

That was a pretty cold response.  And she had the nerve to ask for a donation?  Where's her "grace?"

    This infuriates me!
    I also wrote to her.

Women of Grace?  Really?  You should re-think your ignorant, hate-filled and far-from-GRACEful comments regarding anal cancer and those who are afflicted.

May God have mercy on your soul, Johnette. We see you, and God sees you, for what you truly are.

Thank you , Angela. I am not stopping with her. I am wondering what the management of EWTN has to say about it. I am tired of being ashamed of the religion I was raised in.

    I wrote to her too

    Hello Johnnette,

Like many others I am outraged by your ignorant and hateful statement about anal cancer being punishment for sinful behavior. Not only it is hate speech against homosexuals, but you managed to offend all heterosexual men and women suffering from anal cancer or any other kind of cancer.
I can't comprehend how a normal human being can wish cancer on another human being, whether or not you agree with their lifestyle choices.

This is not going away. It's all over the internet.
You should publish an apology before this ends your career. And don't be sending me responses with donation requests.
Have a nice life, "Woman of Grace" LOL

    wrote her too !

Sent her a message to let her know her comment was quite ungraceful and she has no right to judge, also told her she should have the facts about this disease before condoning our death sentence, as well as the fact that she clearly has offended many and owes us an apology

I'd also like to send this

I'd also like to send this lovely lady a donation but I don't think she'll like it and I doubt that it's tax deductable.

I just want to say that I never advocate being nasty as a response to ignorance and intolerance. It just doesn't help the cause. What is needed ia information and correction of misinformation. Even though what this woman said was wrong and nasty, I don't stoop to that level.

We really need to educate people about this disease.

    Offence

I would suspect we have all been offended & hurt by the comments of 'that woman'.  We all respond differently when we are unjustly hurt & sometimes express ourselves in ways that we never normally would. E.g. ' I could swing for him'. It is just an expression, not necessarily a literal intention.

Ignorance, & the comments made by 'that woman' can bring out a whole range of responses. Justifiably so!

I wonder if her opinion would change should she be diagnosed with anal cancer? Not that I would wish that on her or any other human being.

I would, however appreciate her doing some research to avoid such aggressive offence. What gives her the right to be so judgemental anyway?

Here's response I received from EWTN

This email was sent on Sep. 25th, but I haven't read it until today.

Mary, since I have neither seen the show in question, nor I'm Catholic - could you please follow up with Thomas K Sullivan? Thanks!!!

    Alexandra,

Could you please tell me the show you heard this on? Was it radio or TV and which date was it?

    Thank you for your help.

    -Tom
