pre testing done today..I am getting more nervous!
I went for my pre testing today. I know it's not a big deal, but time is closing in on me. I have open surgery on October 3 (partial). I plan to keep busy over the next 9 days, but boy, it's just not fun having to go through this.... I know mine was caught early, and I am so truly blessed. I don't seem to be worrying about the cancer as much as I am about the surgery.

Just as it should be
Mom2two,
With a good prognosis the big hurdle is the surgery and that is so much better than the cancer. Even though the surgery is not fun nepherectomy's have been around a long time and complications are rare and it sure beats the alternative. Icemantoo

Yes, what the Ice Man said... keep in mind you get to sleep through it all... think of the poor surgeon and the staff, they gotta do all the work..!! Hope the next days go easy... I try to sleep, dreaming of waking up after the surgery... hope this helps... Keep us posted..

be strong
I had my partial nephrectomy done in 2010, and I was 24. Surgery is very intimidating, but what always helped me before I had anything done was I just repeatedly reminded myself that this is an everyday thing for these doctors. most of them do these procedures like we fill out invouces, or change diapers. Do you know if you are able to have it done laparoscopically? I'll keep you in my prayers!

Keep yourself busy, do nice
Keep yourself busy, do nice things and change your bed linen before you go in ! I'm going in tomorrow pm, operation (laparascopic partial) on Thursday. I now just want to get on with it, have had enough waiting !
Good luck with your op, I may not be posting for a while after Thursday.

Thank you for replyingBLKJAK said:You'll do fine!
You are a mom of two, you can easily handle this! Drink plenty of liquids and take the pain medication. No sense in being in pain. You'll come out of this just fine!

Thank you everyone. I somehow wish there was another forum for those with smaller masses like mine...because honestly, I feel guilty complaining or even sharing my fears when others have it so much worse!

Your fears and concerns are just as significant, it is not dependant on the size of your tumour. Try to think about the surgery as a positive objective, it is going to restore your health, which is what we all want to achieve. You will do fine! it will soon be over and you will be back on here helping others with the benefit of your experience.
I will be sending you lots of positive thoughts on the 3rd,as I am sure we all will, all the best:)

do you know why they are
do you know why they are doing an open surgery or is it always open when it's partial?
my husband had a laproscopic nephrectomy last Friday and despite the catheter issue, he seems to be doing well. Have him down to Tylenol and tramadol for the pain.
you will be fine after surgery and please don't feel guilty if others have a more aggressive or larger cancer.
As a breast cancer survivor, I went through the guilt part with others who had it worse.

How often do we say this? Trust your caregivers. They will take care of you. Think about your relief after surgery. Good luck.

I have to have open because I have had at least 13 majar surgeries, and lots of adhesions. Well, I should be a "pro" at this right? I know what to expect from abdominal surgery, but this seems so different...having my flank cut open through so many muscles. I had a partial pancreatectomy and splenectomy in 2009, and it literally knocked me off my feet for 3 solid months.
I am also under an immense amount of stress. I take care of my 98 year old grandmother (and I am still not sure who is going to care for her while I recover and we are only 1 week away from surgery). My brother (very close) had a massive cerebral hemorrhage in March of this year, and is congnitively delayed. He begs me to take him home from the nursing home, and looks constantly for us to come see him. I won't see him for several weeks...lots of guilt all around.
I am just plain tired too. I keep telling myself...I have no choice and it is what it is....could be so much worse.

oh, wow, you have so much on your plate! I hope you can find a way to work out the caretaking of your grandmother and brother.
if I might suggest something about your timing, give yourself more than a week to take care of anyone other than yourself.
wishing you the best and try letting go of guilt.

Short and to the point: You ain't no good to nobody if you don't take care of yourself. Your gift of self to all those in your care is of little value if you disregard your own needs. Harsh reality...if you foolishly try to be Superwomen and ignore your body and it's need to recover you run the risk of needing their care and not the other way around.

My dear sweet Grammy past away Saturday night. She so did not want to go to her daughter's house while I had my surgery. She is at peace now, but I am missing her so much. I can't seem to stop the tears, but at least I don't have to worry that she is not being cared for and loved while I am recovering. Funeral is Wednesday, and surgery is Thursday.

I'm so sorry for your loss, she has gone to a better place and will be the angel in the O.R. watching over you through surgery and recovery.
