Hello Again-- Lung Met (2cm) Resected VATS---Chemo?

in Colorectal Cancer #1

This fellowship gave me so much support almost 4 years ago, I'm back! Just had a 2cm nodule VATS resected that had Metas-- from colon. Surgery was sucessful and frankly quite uneventful. PTL!! Surgeon does not feel Chemo is necessary, Oncologist and Oncology(Med School) consult are sugesting oral chemo for 6 months. NED, CEA 1.3. I need to make descision Thursday. Any thoughts and/or experiences? Main side effects from Folfox 4 and 6 were Nuropathy, Lethargy and very low platelet levels. Thanks for listening.     Great news that surgery was successful! 

    As for thoughts....I would be more likely to follow the advice of the oncologists over the surgeon.  (Even though personally, the surgeon's opinion is more appealing that going through the effects of chemo)

    VATS (Video Assisted Thorasic Surgery)

    My nodule was very small-2cm. I had three small incisiions under my right arm and the surgeon used "robotics" to remove the nodule. I spent two nights in the hospital and am doing well. It appears to be widely used here in the States. Good Luck and God Bless and protect you and yours.

    Dear Friend,

    Surgeon are good at cutting, oncologist are good at giving medications. The surgeons did the cutting and if it was me I would do some chemo, because if you had some recurrence you may have some more cancer cells in your body.

    Yeh. Oncologist said invariably would have cancer cells roaming around. My hubby said phaps it would be like finding a trail of ants, finding the nest and taking it out.....which then would send the ants.cancer cells in a spin!    Catch 22

    food for thought

    We add 1-2 targeted generic drug extras with lots of  carefully chosen supplements to the oral chemo and they make it work better with very few side effects.

    Xeloda Starting Tuesday

    I have decided to start Xeloda Tuesday. (This is Sun) Don't look forward to 6 Mon of this, but have made up my mind not to take a chance. Pray that I'll be one of the fortunate ones that tolerates this stuff well. All sugestions appreciated.

    and I'm sorry not to have the link, found that chemo after surgery with curative intent for a lung met is NOT necessary.  I'll see if I can find something regarding that and post the link. 

    Many or most of us who have had surgery for a solitary liver met are NOT having chemo after surgery.  No studies have shown a benefit and your body does tend to become immune to certain chemos.  Save the big guns, just in case!
