Recovery ~ a straight line or setbacks?

Well that nice little bit of white foamy saliva that I had for a few days, and that I posted on a couple days ago, has disappeared. I'm sure that since it showed up once it will show up again. But I have had dry mouth for the last few days and don't understand it. Nothing has changed; I'm still eating and drinking all the same things, same meds, etc. I was so happy there for a while. Now I'm not so happy.

Is this how you get it back? I don't know if I should expect a straight line upwards, plateaus, setbacks, or what.

I'd sure be a happy camper if I could just get my saliva back.

There a many two steps forward...

one step back....especially in the first few months at least.  Taste ebbs and flows....as well as saliva...and fatigue for that matter.

not a straight line for me

    cadharose,

Progress takes many paths, but the main thing they share is time.  If the return of your taste buds is an indicator your saliva won’t be far behind.  All my damaged systems seem to be on a slow boat home, but I leave a light on for them just encase they are lost.

I can run errands and forget my water bottle and make it home safely, I could not do that a year ago.  I am still at the mercy of my water bottle, but I make enough saliva to know it is getting better.

Don’t beat yourself up too much, drink lots of fluids, eat nutritiously and get plenty of sleep and exercise and let your body heal at its own pace and be happy you won.

    I'm just 3 months out..

and one week I feel almost back to normal and the next I feel like I just finished rads that day.  I'm up and down, back and forth but I KNOW that each day there is some kind of improvement!  Hang in there and keep moving forward!!

Kind of Like a Simple Jig

Two steps forward, one back, left foot in front, right foot to the rear..., slide through the door. Spin around twice...ohhh so nice, bust your azz, you're on the floor...

Like P and Matt, nothing here is linear, nor logical...

I'm sure with time, you'll be back to spittin like most of the rest of us...

As others stated, we are all

As others stated, we are all different. Jim had two have to surgeries within 2 months  of tx which set him back two months. He still has the thick saliva and his mouth gets dry when he talks awhile.
