CapnMatt, a member of this forum, lost his fight with kidney cancer on Saturday. His dear wife, Suzanne, sent me an email this morning as well as a link to his obituary.

    I am sad to hear this. It really hits home to lose one of "our own" here at this forum. May God bless and give peace to his family. Rest in Peace.

    He is in the Arms of the Lord

    Thank you for posting Alice. I am CAPNMatt's wife and it has been a long few months. We came home from the hospital to Hospice care on the 21st of August. The rest all went so fast. Matt read CNS everyday while he was able. He was encouraged to read what each person was trying & how it worked for them. We were both lifted up by each poster and caregivers testimony of strength & courage.

    Matt invited our whole congregation to participate on his journey and they formed "Team Matt". They took him to any appointment I couldn't get to so that I could continue working.  He shared his victories & defeats with this terrible disease and witnessed  prayed with others in each waiting room for all of his treatments. He was at peace through it all.

    We believe that Matt's cancer came from toxic water in Camp Lejeune in the 70's. There was a dry cleaning plant on base near where he lived & his Dad worked that was dumping the fluids in to the ground & water. He is the 4th in his family to get cancer & they each got a different kind. His sweet twin, Mary, passed away 2 1/2 years ago from a seven year battle with colon cancer. His moher passed from lung cancer.His father has 4 kinds of cancer but is still fighting.Matt's cancer was diagnosed 1 month after he retired from 30 years in the Navy. They did a lot of xrays on his physivals but no CT scans. They missed the RCC.

    Matt's initial  tumor had grown out of his kidney and was strangling his vena cava when found. It was 50% scarcomatoid. 6 weeks after surgery , he had mets to lungs , liver and the vena cava where his graft had been done. He tried Votrient and several other chemo combos. He had 3 rounds of radiation for met tumors on the spine. He was a warrior .

    Thank you all for sharing your journeys.  All the courage , hope & faith posted by each of you posting, gave us hope too. He was insiped by Fox & Texas Wedge. As I said earlier, he was at peace and we cannot be more grateful to our hospice team here . We will miss him everyday .He truly knew how much he was loved. Sincerely, Flosser Suzanne B

    Our deepest sympathy to you and your family.  I'm fairly new on here, and hadn't had the pleasure of meeting CaptMatt, but I do know everyone here had the utmost respect and love for him. I am so very sorry for your loss.

    I'm so sorry for your loss. May your memories of CapnMATT bring you peace of spirit. He fought the good fight and was fortunate to have such loving support from family, friends and members of this board.
