U of M surgery changes
We are really upset. We just received a personal call from Dr. Orringer our U of M surgeon. He is the reason we chose to go to U of M for Clint's treatment. He tore his rotator cuff walking his dog and will be unable to do Clint's esophagectomy on October 9. He said that Dr. Lin will be doing the surgery sometime around the same date. This is such a disappointment and really scary. Has anyone had experience with Dr. Lin? He appears to have good credentials but has nowhere near the experience of Dr. Orringer and I can't find any reviews from patients. Any other advice?

Surgery change
I learned of Dr Orringer's injury at the support group on Thursday. I am so sorry. We met Dr Lin several times during the hospital stay. Please just have faith. Remeber U of M has more experience and positive outcomes than any other hospital in our area. Dr Lin will be the one taking over Dr Orringers patients. Just please have faith. There are 3 04 other people in the support group that have had Dr Lin. No horror stories, just good things to say. I know of another couple who is Stage 1. They have decided to wait until Dr Orringer's return in 6 weeks. I'm sure that is not advisable for a Stage 3. Good Luck, again I'm so sorry.

We also asked if Clint could wait--not advisable. Dr. responded to my worried email today and reiterated that if he needed this surgery, he would have Dr. Lin as his surgeon. I'm sure Dr. Lin will be great, but Dr. Orringer's long history and wonderful manner are so reassuring. I hope Larry is doing better. We're looking forward to meeting you next month (just before Clint's surgery).
